Manassas JUNCTION, Dec. 27.—Last night, at about 6 o’clock, the second p. m. train from Brandy Station ran off the embankment at Bristow Station, destroying several yards ot the track, the locomotive and four cars, besides killing tour men and wounding fifteen. At the time of the accident, the train was moving at the rate of at least 20 miles an hour. At Brisiow Station, where there is a switch, the track isin a bad condition. Within eighty yards of the scene of the accident is a bridge ot considerable size, which must have given way had the train proceeded farther, thus rendering certain the loss of at east one hundred lives. It is stated as the cause of the catastrophe, that the switch having become unmoyable tur- ther than toa certain point, the person whose duty it was to change it ran up the track to- wards the coming train and attempted to stop it; but being unprovided with either lantern or torch, his efforts were fruitless. The frequent occurrence of accidents on this military railroad is beginning to attract the notice of the authorities. The trains are car- ried at too great a speed over the road, which is in poor condition, and, seemingly, not often inspected. On starting trom Rappahannock Station, @ car in the same train was thrown from the track and demolished—the passengers merely escaping death from the fact that there were people on the side roads to signal the en- gineer. In this case, as in the more fatal one which succeeded, there was a bridge within a few yards of the place where the accident oc- curred. The killed were Chas. F. Robinson, citizen of Philadelphia, and formeriy a lieutenant in tne 12ist Pennsylvania yolunteers; Henry Young, ecmpany G, lith Pennsylvania Reserves; - Bread, com pany H, §th Pennsylvania Reser yes, and one man unknawn. Fiiteen men (soldiers) were also wounded. The wounded men were at once remoyed to the hospital ot the 3d division, sth corps, under the charge of Dr. Phill ps, who, assisied by Dr. Grim. of the 12th Reserves, gaye them every a‘tention their cases demanded. They were ail doing well this morning. The track wes repaired during the night, and trains are Low running as usual. Had this accident occurred two hours before, the loss of life would have been fearful. Common humanity demands an investigation of the daily accidents on this road, and tho prompt punishment of those by whose negli- gence they are caused. From Panama New York, Dec. 27.—A letter from Panama to the Times states that the town of Tamaco, in Cauca, has been captured by Eenadorians, who are invading Colombia under Flores. The Colombians, under Mosquera, are concentrating to resist Flores Cons:cerable ill-feeling has been exhibited towards American Minister Partridge and Von- sul Livingston for aiding General Barrios’ escape, but the presence of the gunboat Sayi- baw prevented any demonstrati Carrera, with his army, has left inyade Guatemala. Cotton was being considerably cultivated in Nicaragua. A road trom San Jose to the Atlantic ocean has been guthorized by the Costa Rican Uon- press. which a. ed ten thousand dollars 10 their Minister at Washington. ‘The coifee crop in Costa Rica will be heavy this year. 0 A Difficulty Apprehended on our Northern : Borders, Boston, Dec. 26.—Tae St. Croix Herald, published at Calais, Me., near the borders of ew Rrunswick, states that much excitement exists there in consequence of the apprehen- sions telt of a contemplated raid by the rebel agents and “roughs” from the vicinity of St. John. The citizens of Calais and Eastport have formed themselves into Home Guards, and obtained arms and ammunition, holding ene iyes in readiness to resist any hostile attack. Searching Steamers—Seizure of Arms New York, Dec. 27._The United States Marchal yesterday found quite a numberof revolvers among the passengers on the steamer Morning Star, all of which were taken away and given in charge of the purser. A number of roughs offered large inducements for pas- sage, provided they would be taken on board aiter the steamer had passed the guard-ship. The Battle of Bayou Coterau. MORE ABOUT THE “GREAT MILL.” Our files by the Asia are received. The latest dates are tothe 13th. The journals are largely devoted to the details of the exciting pugilis- tic encounter between King and Heenan, of the result of which our readers were informed several daysago. The Thunderer devotes abon, as much space to it as it did to the battle of Gettysburg, and seems to attach quite as much importance to it: [From the London Times,] The match was fought out fairly and tral to the bitter end, neither man taking any ad- vantage of the other. No hand was laid upon them but that of their own seconds from the moment they both entered the ring until the American was laid senseless, bruised. and beaten out of all eemblance of the man who in the pride of manhood and strength had stood there only half an hour before. Tnere were great cheers as King won, to which for a few mcments he was very deaf, for the pace had been rapid, and, all-powerful a8 he was, the heavy falls had shaken his v) ity, and the ee. 8 strode ae poe stag movers mai could scarcel, flogers ign ogee aes were im , here must be.@ soul of goodness in pele, ery Beech re that -F ie ae te was a nas bers ts aie ipa litte kas of ‘BRR novice re upon to though not nearly so. mu i he fought at Farnborou Dy we much more’ re wriste, acd stripped the wet drawers, stained deep with bis own blood, from the limbs of the stunned athlete. There was a dreadful significance inthe way in which he was hauled about limb by mail, as warmer clothes were dragge. over bis uncon- scious form, like dressfhg a corpse. Yet no one seemed to mind much, for all were crowding round the victor, who, with very little signs of punishment about his tace, came gaily up in the uain back to town. Heenan was left wilh his seconds on the field he had fought to win. No one seemed to think much of htm—he was aleaten man, and emong pugilists there is no rerey fer the defeated. Fair or fonl, there is a> yet only one morality with them—success. sill there are men alive who think they can revive the prize ring! It would be as easy to e the sports of the arena.
