Frederick Gideon, rector of the Episcopal church near the first toll-gate, and principal of the Chesnut Hill Academy, was arrested yesterday, by or- der of Maj. Gen. Schenck, on the charge of dis- 1c) yalty. It appesrs that a Mr. Johnson wrote to Mr. Gibson relative to sending a son to his school, and it is alleged that Mr. G. declined to Teceive him because the parents were favora- bie to the perpetuity of the Union. That reply - ‘was cent to the Secretary of War, who sent it to General Schenck, with instructions to in- vestigate the matter. Mr. G. was accordingly arresied yestercay morning and taken before Col. ron Piatt tor a hearing. Mr Gibson snid that asa minister and school §nstructor he had ro political principles, but asa citizen he contended that the present con- dition of the country was caused by an unholy ‘war. When informed that ha was to be im. pri:oned he asked whether he, as a citizen, had norights. Colonel Piatt said in case of his gente he would not be deprived of the rights of ulture, He was confined in the building of the M litary Proyost Marshal. Considering Mr. Gibson's bitterness of spirit in opposition to the Government, it seems sur- post g thathe has so long enjoyed personal berty.—Balimore papers, 2th @7 Court de Montholon, late French Consui at New York, has been appointed by Napoleon Ambaseacor to Mexico. &7-A piece of Mahomet’s shirt was burnt at the late fire in Constantinople.
