The business has been carried on quite extensively,and Co}. Wells has resolved to stop it. Horse thieves are “plying their vocation,” in this place with considerable success—as it ap- stolen horses, once goue, are rarely ‘covered. Within the last week, seve- rals es in the town, andon the suburbs, have been broken open in the night, and valu- able horses taken out and conveyed away. The number of restaurants and eating houses in this place, continue to increase rather than diminish. Among them was a Invalid Corps, who had jast been paid off, and had $24 in his pocket; but he, being sober, was Yeleased. A few hours afterwards Officer Rolte found him lying dead drunk on thecom- mmons, with his pockets turned wrong side out, some parties having gone completely through him. Abont the same time, Ofticer Rolfe found # soldier named Marshali on the commons, eurroanded by a number of suspicious parties, ‘who pretended to be his particular friends, but whose sympathies were probably with the money (e100) which was in his pockets.
