“THE EVENING STAR. AFFAIRS IN GEORGETOWN, [Correspondence Evening Star.) GEORGETOWN, D. C., March 28, 1963. At the meeting of our Board of Common Covncil last evening, the following were ap- propriately referred: Messages fromthe Mayor suggesting thai in lieu of the repair of the mar- Ket house, as contemplated by a late resolution of the Board, it would be mere economics to duild a new one according to modern fashion, and recommending that proposals he invited to thatend; enclosing a communication from Alex Ray, on the subject of aresolution passed in 4656, suthorizing the leasing to him of a por- tion of the southern terminus of Frederick street, and asking the re-enactment with some Modifications; recommending that a flag foot- way be pinced at the southern intersection of Wert and Montgomery streets; enciosing the account of Jos. Libbey for lumber; also, the account of R. A. Waters for printing; a com- munication from the Clerk of the Corporation, asking authority to pay the corporation’s por- tion of the sali of the porter of the Orphans’ Court; memerial of Jacob Stanb and others, Teceived from the Board of Aldermen last Fri- day, in relation to certain pumps; m-morial of M. Adler, asking in behalf of the w dw of the late Wm. McDermott, who held at tne time of his death certain Georgetown corporation stock, thatthe undrawn dividend may be paid her without requiring her to take out letters of administration; memorial of Tsaac Birch, ask- ing that the cookeries in the market house be remored to the elevated platform over the anal, and that the benches now used for them be so!d for butter und vegetable stands: petition of W.B. Ellis, asking the remission of a fine; resolution from the Board of Aldermen in rela- tion to occupants of town property. The following resolutions were then passed: One in relation to bridges over the Chesapeake and OLio canal, requesting the President of the canal company, betore intertering with the fixed grades of the streets, to lay before this Corporation his plan for reconstructing said bride-s, for their approval or rejection; to pay certain claims; directing payment of certain damages to James Adams; one granting the Tight to erect tressel work across Water street; one fer the relief of J. M. Hall: one authorizing 2 new floor in the Mayor and Clerk’s office; one directing the payment ot a judgment te J. N. Fearson. Mr. Tenney effered the following, which was adopted: Resclved, That the committee on streets be instructed to bring in a bill for the thorough repair of Bridge street from Lingan to Green streets.
