The at- | tendance was large and the proceedings har- monious. Hon. John r. This cause has prevented the complete elosing up of j the business of 1861. Damage has frequently | been cone the road, but “whenever protection has been aflorded, the company has with marked rapidity reopened its route. The en- tire road was restored and worked from April Ist to May 29th, and from June 9th to 5th Sep- tember last.”” The vast uses and necessities of the road is indicated in the fact that the reyenne for the monthe of July and Augustamoubted to $1,200,- 000, and the company were thus enabled to pay their semi-annual dividend. “And it is further satisfactory to state, on behalf of the board, that it has also fully main- tained the sinking funds, established for the extinguishment of its funded debt. The success of that system continues to be demonstrated— the sinking funds having been increased from $1,256,371.35 on the 30th September, I860, to $1,M17,554.71 on the 30th September, 1 exhib- iting the gain for two years of $191,1%3.36. “These results have been realized without any payment by the government for the losses and immense and repented destruction of the property of the company. “Arrangements haye been made, and no ef- forts will be spared to reopen the line, whenever the opportunity is afforded, and with the re- paired and newly constructed machinery, it is believed a very large business can, as hereto- fore, be successfully transacted.” The statement was unanimously accepted, and the board then elected the following di- rectors for the ensuing year —John Hopkins, Samuel W. Smith, Francis Burns, Wm. A. Hack, John Spear Nicholas, John Gregg, C. Oliver O'Donnell, Jas. Harvey, Wm. Heald, Galloway Cheston, Wm. W. taylor, Samuel Kirby, and then adjourned. STON EWALL JACKRON NOT ADVANCING OF CUMBER Lanp.—We have the best reasen for believing that the apprehension of araid by Stonewall Jackson on Cumberland and New Creek is without real foundation. A highly intelligent gentleman, with every facility for obtaining correct information, and who made it a part of his business to do so, has just come through from Jtimore to Hancock. He has satisfied himself, from evidences obtained along the route, that Jackson’s main army is stationed at Stephenson’s Depot, four miles northeast of Winchester, on the Winchester and Potomac Railroad. His men are destitute of tents, and it is belie#ed he cannot possibly, in their present situation, even entertyju such ap enterprise as the movement apprehended. He certainly could not perform it unless the weather should remain remarkably mild, and would hardly risk such a contingency.— Wheeling Intelligencer.
