Porick MatrEeRs.—Before Justice Ferguson.— Daniel O°Connell was tried yesterday afternoon, on charge of malicious mischief, by breaking the fence and house of Horatio R. Merriman. The evidence was that defendant was a tenant of com- plainant, and bad broken down the fence attached to the ground where he lived, and taken out a window from the house. Complainant remon- strated with him about the affair, and defendant cursed and abused bim in reply; and finally, on complainant demanding of him certain arrears of rent, threatened to kill him. Justice F. held de- fendant to bail for a further hearing; but rather than trouble hisnself to look up security, he pre- ferred to tey the effect of a change of dict, such as the Government kin@ly supplies gratuitously at the county jail.
