Inte Navr-Yarp.—The sloop-of-war Plym- outh, which arrived ja the Anacostia stream, and run agrorid just below Blagden’s wharf, a few days ago, on ber trip up from the Gulf, was got of without damage yesterday, and brought up tg ber anchorage ground. Considerzbly iess than the usnal number of men are at present employed inthe several work shops; and yet business ix prosecuted with ac- tivity, aud much fine work is being turned out In the anchor shops, under the superintendence of Master Workman Jobn Tucker, a number of large orders for firat class anchors for the princt- pal yards of the country are being filled. A great deal of beavy forging has been done in this shop recently for the steam war sloop Richmond, now in progress of construction at the Norfolk navy- yard. An order bas also been recently received here fora new shaft forthe San Jacinto, now hauled up at the Brooklyn navy-yard for repairs. Toisx shaft is to be of the best quality of iron. twelve inches in diameter, and t irty-three feet in length. When the San Jacinto’s machinery was overbauled and examined, after bauling up, it was nearly all condemned. is tohavenew balwarks, new boiler, and a considerable amount Of new machinery; and will not be ready for ser- Vice tn less than a month or six weeks. In the machine shop, the principal work being done is “pon the machinery of the Richmond. For the benefit of Washington mechanics, it should be waid here that the princtpal part of ber engines are being made at this yard, though the credit of it ‘# generally ascribed to the workmen of the Gosport yard, without disparagement to the lat- ter, however, as there are no facilities for turning out heavy machinery in any of the Government yards so great and Ro perfect in every respect as in the Washington yard The new anchor shop is progressing as fast to- wards completion as circumstances will permit ()n= section of it Is completed, as far as the stone and brick work is concerned, and only awaits the action of the contractors for furnisbing the heavy timbers necessary to support its roof. In view of * lateness of the season, it is not expected that the roof will be completed so as to admit of ocen- pation before early in the Spring. The old anchor sbop will then be torn down, and the new one extended so far as to be on a line with the eastern terminus of the new machine shop and finishing department. This arrangement will impact uni- formity to the appearance of the several shops, and afford opportunity for more extended opera- bons in the manufactare of anchors. MarxetViotations —The police having been ordered to assist the clerks of the several markets tn enforcing the regulations Strictly, numerous caves have been tried before the potice magis- trates, comprising violations of the market laws }a various particulars, as forestalling the market, huckstering without license, placing articles for exhibition beyond the line esignated by law, &c. There are other violations which are fre- quent, but of such acharacter that though the « Senders are known, they are seldom Proseented. Pilfering is a common offence, and the dealers xreatly thereby. {[t is not confined to little children, though they are largely engaged in it; but grown persons—men and women—and some of them of genteel appearance, are sometitnes caught in theart of carrying away small articles. On Saturday nights, the drpredations upon the hue Ksters are numerous. Upon a recent evening, while conversing with a dealer in Centre Market, he spoke of the aunovance of these juvenile thieves, who were larking abont his f: bas- kets“ Now,” said he, ‘stand here a moment, and see how cunning these boysare.”” Just then, ® little fellow, with an empty bucket on his arm, stepped into the gangway, near a b-ap of sweet potatoes. His motions were not suspicious, but the eye of the dealer was upon him; and the boy ttuck bis bands in his pockets and commenced a shu fiing dance. The dealer seized bim and toid bim to “take those potatoes out of bis pocke's and put them back.’ The boy denied havinz them, and we thought the dealer had acensed bim wrongfully; but, taking the boy by the arm, be drew his hands from his pockets, and there were the oes’ ‘Now,’ said the dealer, “you see bow they work; nobody would hare suspected that boy, but I knew he had stolen the potatoes, the moment he put his hands in his Pockets. Lewis, (see ad- Yertisement eisewhere,) No. 251 Estreet, between eenth and Fifteenth. ‘The pattern, by this ‘ess, is tnid upon the material esigned to be Oidered with aa accuracy and beauty really ishing, as compared with the clumsy and as operation of tracing the pattern by band, as ladies have heretofore been obliged to come at it. The beauty ef the em idery executed upon the stamped pattern is 2 nderfally increased through the correctness and clearness of the out- line presented; and the work i# also rendered much easier. We advise our iady raade:s who may be in want of patterns er embroidery to cal! upon Mrs. Lewis, and see some of her exquisitely execuird de ns. Nintm Distaict Poster. =A police afftir came off before Justice Cull, a day or two since, which goes far toward verifying the axiom, that it always takes two to make a quarrel. Itseems that Messrs. i. and M. are neighbors, and that some of Mr. Ls chickens bad been shot by M., and L. finding some of the bipeds shortly after their unpleasant. |, if the truth must be told, disgraceful demise, seized Dpon the opportunity to bring M. to sudden and retributive justice; so he Dg information, and had M. arrested for the coid- deceased chick-a- blooded murder of the biddies. M. answered the warrant Sr roving espass upon b. that L. -=-mitted bis hens to tr lettuce beds, and trample down and destroy the young plants. So the iene was dismissed. L , jowever, ned to have revenge for the slaughter of his poultry, ascertained that there was alaw of the Corporation against fring of guns within five hundred yards of a dwel ing- house, and so bad M. up again on a new charge. ‘The magistrate fined M $5 85c_ costs for the lat- ter offence, and let him off. L. then got out another warrant gainst M. for abusive and obscene language towards a female member of bis family, and M. was again put through for a fine, which in this case was 81.94. Jey he case of the chickens it was proved that ficed off bis gun twice, so that the fine im- posed was $5 and costs in each case J M. was disgusted with bis defeat, and after casting about, finally discovered an o; portunity of being even with his late ponent fore the shrine of Justice. He found out that L. kept three dogs, and entertaining a strong sus | per that no license had been paid for them, ¢ bed L up for keeping dogs without a license. L. ruled bis trial for to-day at 4 o’clock, p.m, ard how the case will end gracious only knows, for the contestants are a pair of diamonds which gtow sharper at each collision. A couple of days ago several complaints were lodged before Captain Goddard by parties living on Capitol Hill against a club of undergrown men, called “‘ Rams,’' who were charged with holding a meetings at their club-room in the vicinity. Orders were given to have the plece looked up by the police, and the night be- fore last, the night watch of the district, together with some of the police of the Ninth district, pro- ceeded to their rendezvous and captured eleven of their number, whom they conveyed to the east- ern lock-up. Yesterday morning Justice Cull heard the testimony against them, and fined the entire party $5 55 ‘each, as we stated in yester- day's Star” Two of them Produced evidence to show that they were not members of the “ Ram” party; and, moreover, that they bad a short time before their arrest at the club, come from an evening meeting at one of the churches, Justice Cull, upon learning the above facts, reduced their fine to@25Ueach. Crxctnnati, Dec. 10 —Quite a collision bes taken plece between the United States Court and the Superior Court in this city, growing out of the case of the Obio Life and Trust Company. The suit, as it now appears, is about approach- ingacrisix. The receiver of the former bas manded the assets in the hands of the she: who Is receiver under the Superior Court. The sheriff to-day asked for instractions, which will be given. Both courts, it appears, are frm in their determination. Tue probability is. or at least it is now se understood, that the sheriff will be committed for contempt by the United States court, and that he will subsequently be released on a writ habeas corpus, and then Prosecute Judge McLean and Judge Leavit for damages.
