The National Legislature, the Cabinet, and the diplomatic COrps Were well rep- resented, and the usual display of the beauty and fashion of the Federal city. The concert opened with Rossini’s musi- cal achievement, the “ Stabat Mate1,” a consid- erable portion of which was formed, and in very gocd style. Mile Parodi and Mud. Stra- koseh executed the difficult duett, “ Quis est bomo,” ina rare style of excellence, and were sacate sentagpons ine ‘* Inflaromatus’? solo and chorus was admirably performed by M’me Col- soa and the company. Sig Amodio litt well the * Pro peceatis,” and S=nor Labocet*i ren- dered the ““Cajus Animam” with great express- iveness. The choruses were only tolerabie, not what might have been expected from so excellent a2 company - In the second part, the performers amply re- deemed any little faults of the opening. Mr. ‘Squires, the young American tenore, ste: ade. cided hit with the audience. «Then you'll re- member me,’* from Balfe’s Bohemian Girl, and “The Star of Love,” by W. Vincent Wallace, which he sung in good voice and with much taste, were loudly encored M’me Coison and Sig. Barili gave ‘+ Laci daram la mano,” duett fom Don Giovanni, with superb effect Mad. Strakosch, the chorming contralto, challenged attention by her pathetic rendition of © H. Sweet Home; and, in reply to the pe: calls of the audience, sang ** The Timid Man."’ The forcible Parodi electrified all hearers by her performance of * Une voce poco fa,” from * Le Barbiere de Seviglia.”’ and acknowledged the determined encore with which she was rewa-ded at the close, by giving ‘* Rataplan”’ in ber best style. M’me de Wiinorst and Mr. Squires gave 4 famoiliar duett from Don Pasquale, which was repeated. But perbaps the crowning piece of the whole entertainment was a drinking song, from La Promise, one of Auber's best airs, sugy by Mme Colson, which was so determisediy encored as to induce the fair songstress to come forward with her * Laughing Chausonnette,” in which «he charmed all hearers. As a whole, the festival was a musical treat rarely heard in this or any other American city. SATURDAY and SunDay.—The reports of the Police for Seturday and Sunday last indicated that there was considerable disorderly conduct in various sections of the city during those days, and that the police were fast enough to make a farge number of arrests. But, though there was disorderly conduct, it was not of that alarming character that causes the quiet citizen to fear for the safety of his life and Property. It was mostly oceasioned by intemperanc- and the follies of youth; and those arrested were genera ly charged with petty effences punishable by the Co: pora- tien Jaw with fine or imprisonment. Some com- motion was excited on Sunday near the cornet of I aad Seventh sirects east, by the debut of a par- ty ef youths who rallied under the name of “Rams *’ Their conduet attracted the attention of the police, and ove of them arrested; bnt his party suddenty changed their tune, and from figbiing men became suppliants; and by joining this prisoner in wing @ release, and promixing to separate and behave properly, they secured his discharge. — Tar Scrame Cover of the United Statex met yesterday a: their room in the Capitol Present: Hon. Tux Staeets AnD AveNves.—In consequence of the heavy rains this morning, the crossings on Peunsylvania avenue were flooded and difficult of passage, especially on the north side of the avenue. The heavy body of water pouring down the numbered streets swept the mud and filth from the gutters to the sewer openings at the avenue corners. These becoming clogged, and the water finding no channel, large ponds were formed, which extended over the fag Ways and sidewalks at various points, making it necessary for pedestrians to pass them by leaps—many who Were out of practice, proving the ponds to be knee deep. at least, in some places. If pains were taken to remove the dirt from the number- ed streets leading to the avenue, @ rainy dayein Washington would not be quite so disazreeable Qn affair as at present. Fire —Last night, avout eight o'clock, fire Was discovered in the extensive sash and mould- ing factory and planing mill of Messrs. Munro and McLean, corner of Thirteenth and B streets; and, ina very short time, notwithstanding the efforts of the Hremen, and numerous citizens, the buildings, machinery and material were almost entirely destroyed. We learn, upon inquiry of the proprietors, that their loss Is about $5,000, us there was no insurance upon the Property. The fire is prone to have been the act of an incen- diary. Mr. McLean says that. after the work- men left, he made a carefal examination of the remises, as was his custom, and all appeared to in asafe condition; and be can imagine no other cause of the calamity than a malicious in- cendiary act.
