It is from the Phil- adele’ sia North American and U.8. Gazette: vinous Fiowars In tax Hovse.— The ‘vulture of bulbous roots in a greenhouse, or light room, during the winter, is comparatively easy, provided two points be attended to. The firet is to keep them near the light, and turn the pots or glasses round freqaently, to pre- vent their growing crowded; and the second is, when the plants hove done growing, to give them little or no water. For want of attention to these points, bulbs hare been known to pro-! duce foliage year after year, without showing any signs of clossoms. _ All bul’s, at a certain period of the year, ate in a d-emant condition—this, in a atate of na- fers, being invariably after the seed ripens. 2st, as in a greenbouse, many of the fam! ly do Bot ripen seed, the period should be watched when the leaves show indication of decay; and @t this time the supplies of water should be lessened, and shortly afterward theearth shoatd be suffered to get dry, and remain #0 until the season returos when the balbs regerminate. Many sorts of bulbs will keep best in pots, un- “er the soil, in a dry, sandy place, and in the same temperature as that in which they are in the habit of growing; bat others, such as the hyacinth, tulip, narcissus, eto., may be takey out of the soil, and preserved until the return of ~_ ae eve for transplanting. @ pots »' at this stage be taken into the house, and placed in ny convenient situs. tion, im a room without a fire, till they have formed their blossom buds, which will bein the latter end of October, when they should be re- moved to a window in a room where there is a fire. They will throw ont abundance of branches #od will continue fowering beautifully durin November, December and anuary; , if they are regularly watered eve: day, till the foi- lowing March. The seeds of the Plants which are tocome into flower in March, to succeed them, shouid be sown in pots at the latter end of August, and the pots may be placed in any situation, under cover, where they will have plenty of light, and can have air occasionally. Early in November they should be thinned out, or transplanted, so as to leave only six or eight plants ina Put, and these pots should be Plunged into a shallow box, half filled with coal ashes, and placed where they will not have much heat, and yet be protected from frost While in this sicuation, they should be regu- larly watered once or twice a week. Cauxcia Japonicas.—To grow the Camelia to perfection considerable care is necessary Any one in repotting pl will observe bow liable the roots are to get matted together, so ssto render them altogether impervions to ‘ater, which often runs down by the sides of the pots, leaving the middie dry. Those, and they are many, who make & parlor plant of the Samelia, are often disappointed and dizcour- aged at seeing the apparently well-formed Hower buds tura brown and drop off. just when expected toopen. With some, this arises from not having been repotted the previous spring; it is evident that the numerous roots must have exhausted all the goodness of the soil in fereing shoots aud buds. Water will then just keep the plant alive, but affords no strength for the flower to come to perfection. With others, the plant is much injured by the ———- dry stove-heat kept up in the room, te of atmosphere not at all eongenial to the camelia, and particularly when flowering. The leaves must at ail times be kept clean and free from dust. A little attentién to these points, particularly not suffering them to stand daring the summer in the bot sun, and keeping them well watered, will make the parlor, cultivation of this beautiful plant by no means difficult. When placed out of doors, they should not df too near each other; a free circulation of air improves their appearance and strength. ARRANGEMENT OF GrekNRotse PLayts.— To put greenhouse plants in proper order quires some taste and judgment. Most plan bave a peculiar location in their native state, therefore it is equally requisite that they have something similar in their artificial location, in the greenhouse or in the pa lor. The geranium may be placed a situation as close as possible to the glass, where they can obtain the fnil influence of the eun. The came- lia, on the contrary, requires ashady situation, but should not be so placed that a free circula- tion of air can act upon it, which should be wholesome, or the flower-buds will eventually drop off before they expand. Ail kinds of auc- eulent plants. like the cactus, should be placed on shelres in a warm, dry situation, where they ean receive the sun and air. On the frout shelves, swall plants of almost every kind, may be placed, and Particularly the hardy kinds, as China roses, bulbs, and those that are of a dwarf it. If this plan be observed, their *Ppe se will be graceful and p'easing. Vhat are familiarly known as Dutch bulbous roots, intended for blooming in pots, during the Winter season, should be planted during the months of October and November, and be left io the open air until it begins to freeze, when they should be placed in a green-house, or in a Froom, exposed to the sun. ihey will need oc- casional moderate waterings until they begin to grow, when they should have sbundaace o° air, in urild weather, and pienty of water from the saucers underneath the pots; they should also be ex asmu has possible to the sun, air and F eecya Preveat the foliage from growing too long, or becoming yellow. Micxoserre Firowers rnrovesovr te Ygan.—With alittle management, it may be comirived to have Mignoneite in flower every moath during the year. In order that the plants may flower in winter, the seed should be sown in the open border inJuly. Or, if it be more convenient, the seeds may be sown in pots in that month, placing the pots in a bal- cony, or outside a window, or in any situation where they will e abandance of light and air. In September, the ares shoukd be re- moved to the pots in which they are to flower, and only a sufficient number left in each to make the pots look full without the plants be- ing so crowded as to occasion them to be drawn a "Some taste ig also required in arranging the ts in such a manner that the whole will form a mingled group, not too formal. Their various colors and f-rms shon!d be eo managed that thi will not be too much sameness, wWlch will be the ease if several plants of a similar kind are put together. plants, of tal! habit, should be selested and placed separately. Mixiarure axp Borraoy Roses.—The min- lature family of as its name implies, con- sists of plants of dwarish habit.
