Hyde and Mowberry, of the Boa-d of Guardians of the Public Schools of Georgetown, were present, having come to consult with this Board us to efforts to obtain aid from Congress fur the Public School« On motion, they were invited to seats within the bar of the Board Mr. Ironsides stated that as this subject was now before the Board, he would say that the Dis- trict Committee in Congress would report in relation to the matter to-morrow, but that they hed refused any grant of public land; to the use of the Publie Schoolx. Martin was then elected assistant teacher of primary No. 1 Fourth district, in place of Mrs. Skidmore, promoted. Mr. Chapin offered the following resolutions; which were adopted : Resoleed, That the teachers of the public schools shall hereafter receive the tickets of ad- mission in the order of presentation, and in case of a vacancy they shall receive the applicant first on the register. Resolved, That the Secretary of this Board couununicate the above resolution to all teachers in the public schools in this city. And then the Board adjourned. ARREsT ON Scsricton —Yesterday morning Messrs. Allen and Boss returned from a business trip north, and on getting out at the cars, were hailed by a person named J. Cavendy Hall, who had, by his behaviour,excited the suspicion of M-. Boss, and he hed warned several hotel proprie- tors to be on their yuard. Hall abused Boxs, and told him he would have the handcuffs put on iv ashort time. Boss jmmediately arrested and took him to the Gaardhonse, on sus: icion of being conuectid with certain hotel robberies Hall had represented himself asa U.S detective, paid by government $15 per day, and had shown what purported to be a badge of office, a goid beeastpin, bis uame engraved on it, with the words “Special detective U.S. government.” He denied baving such a badge, but being search- ed by Captain Mills, the badze was found.” This moruing be said he was a ** Special detective of St. Paul, Minnexota’’ The case was partially examined by Justice Donn, and the statement of Air. Boss was corroborated by Messrs. Alien, Chandlee. Stanley, Captain Mills and Mr. Stoops.
