B. Rhine of the parapsychology laboratory at Duke University, Durham, N. C. would like to know. It all started over a brown and white springer spaniel dog named Spike. Spike showed up in Denver, Colo. footsore and weary. He was wearing a 1950 Juneau dog license tag No. Air Force Sgt. H. A. Ama. Rhine is making a scientific study their way over long distances in strange country. He wrote to City owner of the dog, thnking the dog may have made his way overland from Juneau to Denver. Popejoy wrote Rhine giving him the information on the applicant for { dog license No. 69 but did not have Peterson’s address and- said that Alaska was full of Petersons. “More than likely this dog that made its appearance in Denver was taken out of Alaska via airplane after being attached to Air Force personnel,” Popejoy wrote the bud- ding scientist, “. . .but if this dog traveled by foot from Juneau to Denver, he would have had to cross at least onc or two glaciers about 20 miles out of Juneau, go up the Taku Valley into Canada, thence south to the states, hitting few set- tlements and going through wolf infested country. This is rather fantastic but not impossible for a small dog.” LUMBERMEN ARE HERE A. L. Besancon of Seattle and Warren Schmikel of Sitka, both with the Columbia Lumber Co., are in Juneau.
