Until recently, all such applicants had to travel to Se- attle, Washington, to enlist. At present, Kodiak is the only sta- tion open for applications, but it is planned to have a travelling | recruiting unit visit various cities in Alaska if the number of ap- plications warrants such action. ! Those eligible for enlistment must be male citizens of the United States between seventeen and thirty-cne years of age, who have had no service in any branch of the armed forces. Members of the Inactive Naval Reserve who have | had no other service are also eli- | gible. Timber to be logged and removed prior to December 31, 1953, Primary manu- facture outside the Territory of Al- aska of anv part of the timber is subject to the ocnsent of the Re- gional Forester. Stumpage Prices—Bid rates will apply to timber scaled prior to De- cember 31, 1950. Lqwest rates con- sidered $2.25 per M bd. ft. for spruce sawtimber, $100 per M bd. ft. for hemock sawtimber, $1.50 per M bd. ft. for cedar sawtimber, 1%c per linear foot for pilinz over 95 feet in leneth, and lc per linear foot for piling under 95 feet in length. All rates are subject to readjustment by the Chief, Forest Service, on Decem- ber 31. 1950, under the conditions and limitations stated in the sample agreement. i Devosit—$3 000 must be dep-sited with each bid to apply on the pur- chase price, refunded or retained in part as liouidated damages, accord- ine to conditions of sale. Bend—Performance bond in the amount of $5,000 will be required as a euarantee of faithful performance of the contract. Special Conditions — The timber available on this tract is needed by established industries in Alaska, and sale contract will not authorize in- stollation of a sawmill to manu- facture the timber.
