BURFORD Juneau; Alaska TAKE BOYS INTO HOME ENJOYMENT JusI a Little Appreuahon porforming this REAL, SERVICE as Goes a Long Way De- clares One Mother (Continued from Page One) {to contribute a little article to the |Department edition of the Alaska |Daily Empire and as it will not be |possible for me to attend the Con- vention this year, as much as I |would like to. I am very glad to| |send an article and thus get my| {thoughts to you concerning some- thing which 1s near and dear to me and which my experience has| shown me is well worth while.| Here it is: | Most of us have homes and many | of us have sons in the Service. Few of those sons can be at home [with us until this war is over but do we stop to realize that other| people’s sons are among us and, are just as hungry to get into a| home, have a home-cooked meal,| relax in an easy chair and listen! to -the radio or tell us about their | homes, sweethearts, experiences and what they want to do after they| are discharged from the Service? | We all know there is nothing as helpful to a son away from home| las for an older person to take| enough interest in him to invite| him into their home for a few, hours so that he may become a! real part of that home. The USO is doing a wonderful job in fur-| nishing entertainment for our fighting men but as good as this influence is, yet nothing can com- pare with taking them into ourl home. Last year two hundred and five unrelated men in Service had din- |ner in our home and this year we| have received letters from various| parts of the world from these same! men again expressing their approc-; iation for the little we did for| them. My own two sons are a long ways from home and have! written telling us of their apprecia- | tion of the invitations into the| homes of others who are doing the| same service I'm referring to here- | in. My heart goes out in gratitude! to these people for their kindness even as the hearts of other moth-| ers have come back to me for hav-| ing entertained their sons.
