The arrangement eliminates the old neecssity of placing all radio telephone long distance calls directly from the radio office in the Federal Building. Two trunk telephone lines are re- quired to route these calls from t city to the office of the Signal Corps and thus out over the radio- telephone. Through the city’s instrumentality of leading hotels, Gastineau and Baranof, these trunk lines have been provided and paid for. The hotel management of these two hostelries are paying the bill for the use of the necessary lines but the service is extended to all Juneau at no extra charge. Those who would place a long distance call may now do so by merely ringing 044 or long distance which connects them with the Signal 'ps office with . whom the far-a-way call is placed. Incoming calls like- wise are routed over the trunk lines from the Signal Corps office to private residences. In addition to this latest innova- tion radio-telephoners will soon have contact with Ketchikan neau. Service here will be duplicated by that in Juneau. Details of ad- ministration, equipment and rates of this new service are being worked out by the Alaska Communications Sysiem at Seattle. - Shower Tonight for {1 the Mrs. Scoft Ford | Honoring Mx\ Scott Ford, recent | bride of W, §.
