Associated Press Day Wire Service For 59 Years Devoted to the Best Interests of Key West VOLUME LX. No. 58. Peter 0. Knight Takess: Up Key West’s Cause: For Government Projects Communicate With Rep- haha hahah ,| LARGEST BONEFISH - OF PRESENT SEASON TAKEN AT MARATHON Manly Judd, of New York City, returned this week with Bob Hoffman, of Long Beach, L. L, to the Overseas Cafe and Lodge at Marathon to beat his own record made last week: when he caught five bonefish in one after- noon. Going*eut again in the aft- ernoon, with Capt. Harry Snow, Mr. Judd and Mr. Hoffman caught nine beauti- ful bonefish, the largest weighing nine and a half pounds, which is a record for Marathon bonefishing. The fishing was done at Key Vaca Cove, Marathon, the same place where Mr, Judd made his record catch last week. The flats adjacent to the Florida Keys are noted as one of the best bonefishing spots on the Atlantic Seaboard. Pound for pound, the bone- fish puts up as terrific a strug- gle for freedom as the sail of the Gulf Stream or any other larger fish. Although aver- aging only six or seven pounds, special tackle has been manufactured for this fighting fish. resentatives In Congres Urging Proper Recogni- tion | “I hope to see the any | when government projects will be established on their merits and not because of politics.” This is one of several per- tinent statements in a letter addressed to U. (Soon there- after I left again to engage in the Hog Island shipyard work, where I remained until some time after the war closed.) Great Mistake “The dismantling of govern- mental activities at Key West and moving them elsewhere was a great mistake. Of course, it was political, because Miami had more votes than Key West. But all the government projects that were established in Key West from time to time and established on their merits should be re-es- tablished there. And if a marine base is to be constructed it should be established there. I hope to see the day when govern- ment projects will be established on their merits and not because of politics. “T trust both of you will do what you can to assist in restor- ing Key West to the situation to which it belongs.” It will be recalled that during a recent visit of the Naval Ad- visory Board headed by Rear Admiral Arthur J.
