This belief was expressed by of- ficers of the Presbytery of New York at its annual meeting. Seeking means of replenishing | funds that have shrunken in the de-| pression, the Presbytery announced,; it would welcome endowments of| less than $10,000. Such comparatively small en-| dowments were not encouraged be-| fore 1929. i The Rev. Guy L. Merrill of the Board of Pensions of the Presby- terian Church said: “We need not expect large en- dowments because the wealth of the country is being distributed over a wide area and some of us believe, in a more just way. If a man can give only $10 to his church he should be encouraged to do thaf. “We have been brought up to be- lieve that unless we give large sums we are not going to be permitted to participate in the kingdom of God.” Brunetes Chosen | As Perfect Wives AMES, TIa., July 24—What kind of wives do the Iowa farm boys want? A questionnaire circulated at the University of Iowa recently tells the story. The boys “insisted” their future wives come from the farm, they do not smoke, that they be “not bad looking,” that they be able to play bridge, dance, be good pals and good sports. The major Hul;l’ioneer Honored SAN JOSE, Cal.—Mrs. A. T. Herr- mann, who asserts she introduced the hula dance into the United States, recently observed her 93rd birthday. In the 1880s Mrs. Herr- mann made a number of trips to Hawaii, learned the hula and danced it at a party in San Jose. ———————— Tax returns in one Kansas coun- ty showed only one rug and two shotguns owned by inhabitants. | | | | | WALL CLIMB zr Sit sideways close to the wall with the legs stretches straight along the side boards. Relax and allow the| feet to slide slowly down the wall until you are again lying flat. Re- peat five times. ity chose brunettes. KNEELING EXERCISE ° Start in a kneeling position with the knees and palms of the hands on the floor. Swing the right leg up in the air, turning the head to look back over the shoulder toward the upraised foot. Bring the knee back to the floor. Repeat with the other foot. Those three exercises, done every morning before you take your shower, will do much to keep you limber, your waist slender and your hips slim. — .+ - ——————— | Members of the CCC have spent | more than 3,000,000 man-days in fighting forest fires.
