S L B 4, SR ARTICLES ON TRIANGLE BUILDING GET SPECIAL MENTION FROM JUDGES e es 00200000y . . ¢ THE TRIANGLE BUILDING e 3 e 000 ess000000 Newcomers to Juneau will feel they are in a modern progressive town when they see the new build- ings. One of the finest and new- est buildings in Alaska is the Tri- angle Building, just recently com pleted by J. B. Warrack and Com- pany. It is soundproof, watérproof and fireproof; has numerous safety de- vices such as a fire escape, an iron door preventing fire from ascending or descending to the third or sec- ond floors, and two new devices on the automatic oil burner. There is electric wiring, and plumbing throughout; a flag-pole at the cor- ner and a marquee facing Front Street. The exterior is finished with a new concrete composition, colored light tan with jade trim- mings. This magnificnt building is three stories high. Four stores and the furnace room occupy the first floor. The second floor contains twelve office rooms, reached by ascending only twelve low, broad steps from Franklin Street, an unusual fea- ture. On the third floor there are five beautifully arranged apart- ments; each having an electric range, electric refrigerator, hard- wood floors, except in the bath- rooms which have tile and kitch- enettes which have linoleum, and French doors between the living rooms and dinnettes. The building is a great asset to our town because it catches the eye of all the tourists and makes their first impression very favor- able. It also makes the town more metropolitan in appearance with the paved streets, new buildings and in particularly, this new, mod- ern building. MARY VANDER LEEST. e, THE TRIANGLE BUILDING e The Triangle Building, Juneau’s latest fireproof structure is sit- uated on the corner of Front and Franklin Stréets. The building was erected by the J. B. Warrack Con- struction Company for N. G. Nel- son and John Rustgard. It con- sists of three stories and is a product of modern architecture and construction. The outside is fin- ished in pearl gray stucco mmmed] with pale green. The first floor gives space for four stores with large plate glass windows and tiled fronts. These rooms are spacious and well light- ed. The walls are plaster as are the walls of the rest of the build- ing. On the second floor are situated | twelve offices for the use of en- térprising business men. These rooms are also spacious and well lighted. On the third floor the space is occupied by five, modern, three- room apartments each equipped with the latest improvements. The building has an ideal loca- don in the center of the business | district which is an advantage to the stores and offices. The fire- proof structure is an advantage to the apartments because it relieves one of the worry of fire. The building on a whole is very attrac- tive. There is a marquee over the doors and windows of the first floor facing Front Street and the | space between the display windows | and the sidewalk is done in black and white tile work which is very| attractive also. This building is a | credit to Juneau and one of which Juneau is justly proud. LEONARD FORREST. — - ® e 0000000 THE TRIANGLE BUILDING LG IR SRR N A A Y This splendid structure is situat- ed on the corner of Front and Franklin Streets. It is one of Ju- neau’s most oustanding buildings and will tend to enlighten the newcomer as to why we are so Jjustifiably proud of our city. It is well named, being triangular in shape, which fact lends it a distinctive style, artistic and pleas- ing in apeparance. It stands three stories high—simplicity of archi- tecture lending it dignity. It is modern and up-to-date in every detail. It is not elaborately trim- med, just enough to lend it a touch of the artistic. Its pearl- gray perfection is set off by pale green, which renders it an object of quiet beauty. On the left hand side is the fire escape, conveniently and carefully placed, On entering we find ourselves in spacious rooms, well planned and well lighted. Here is place for at- tractive roomy stores. After climbing a flight of stairs we find oureslves in a long corri- dor with doorways on either side. Its very simplicity gives us a feel- ing of security. These twelve rooms are model modern offices. Another flight of stairs brings us to the third story. Here we find five ideal apartments, fitted with every possible convenience— tunate persons—safe as well as cosy for the Triangle Building is fireproof throughout. Juneau is proud of this build- ing not alone because of its solid- ity and security, but because it speaks of Juneau’s faith in Ju- neau’s future. MABEL BLANCHE RITTER. 000000 ® ® . The possibility of making them into beautiful and attractive stores is already shown by the Halvorsen’s Ladies Clothing Store, which equals any store in our large cities and seems to add to Juneau touch of the “outside.” On the second story there are offices, twelve in number, the of- {The chimney is on the northwest a few feet away from the skylight. | offices and apartments. | apartments, five in number. In each kitchen there is an electric refrigerator and an electric range over and above the regular kitchen furniture. Al these apartments command a splendid view of the business section of the city. The windows are large so that a4 person can have daylight and fresh air. The electric light fixtures are of the most modern design and are very attractive. The frame of the building being made of steel and cement and fin- ished in stucco is absolutely fire- proof. A door made of asbestos and steel operates automatically in case of fire, preventing flames from passing from the second to the third floor. A fire escape of the most mod- ern type looks after the rest. A marquee the entire length of the building on Front Street shelt- ers passers by and protects the large plate glass show windows. This building is almost the best building in Alaska and Juneau may justly be proud of it and so may all Alaska. JOSEPH F. McLEAN. BERSREA . . . . TRIANGLE BUILDING 24 .
