Woopwann, Upto about 5 o'clock this afternoon the President had a very satisfactory day, al- though the extreme heat caused hima good ; deal of discomfort, and acted to some extent unfavorably upon his general eoudition. On account of the strong hot wind from the south, tit was found impracticable, even at ihe full work:ng capacity of the’ refrizerat- ines, to keep the temperature of the patient's Toom down, without closing the dvors and windows, and this it wis not thought prudent to de. Cold air enough was farnished by the nae but, instead of filling the room and crowding out the heated air, as it had heretofore dot on warm days, the cold air itself was swept away almost as fast as it came from the pipes by the hot south wind which blew strongly throughout the The thermometer in the patient's room, there- fore, for the first time in several wecks, ranged from $5 10%. This temperature, of course, operated to the President’s disadvan- tage in his present weak condition, and his afternoon fever was higher than usual. There was no indication, however, of any other cause for inereased febrile rise. The discharge of pus at the evening dressing was satisfactory. There were no symptoms of imalaria, and, with s the sinzle exception of a higher bodily temperature, the condition of the patient at 7 o'clock seemed quite as good as if not better. Soon after the evening examination, the icver began to abate, the President went to steep naturally, without anodynes , and has rested quietly defore 10 o’clock the febrile y subsided, and, at this hour, “the patient’s pulse is again below 100, and iis temperature is normal.
