The exports of the United tates for the whole year, judging from the New York returns for June, will probably ex- ceed $555,.000,000—an amount, it is needless to add, never approached within $120,000,000 in apy previous fiscal year. On the other hand, it may be inferred rrom 1ke cata that the agfre= gate imports will be about $670,000,000, or nearly $30,000,000 more than the unprecedented aggre- gate of 1873. Thus the totalimports and ex- ports of merchandise for the fiscal year must have been over $1.505,000,000, and adding specie exported and imported, the forcign commerce of the country will exceed $1,615,000,000. Ten years ago it was less than half as great. Chicago bank clearings were $6.460,492. Busi- ness was fairly active at the banks on account of the holiday to-morrow. New York exchange was higher, dnd was quoted at par@25e per $1,000 discount. Country orders for currency ‘were light. Loans were in light demand, and were quoted at 4@6 percent on call and 6@3 per cent.on time. St. Paul 6s, $10,000, were sold at par and inter- est; $5,000St. Paul 7s, at 109 and interest; $2,000 Chicago %s of 1884, at 1074; and $5,000 Cook County 43s, at 10333. ‘The clearings of the Chicago banks for the week are reported as follows by Manager D. ik. M. WILSON. Cashier. BY TELEGRAPH. NEW YORE. Spectal Dispatch to The Chicago Tribune. ‘New Yon, July 3.—The artificial working-up of prices on the Stock Exchange bus ceaséd in a meusure; but there are apparently some strong bulls who are not disposed to permit the inevitable collupze to come, and prices are still kept to the unatural figures to which they were advanced. ‘The public still refuse to come in, however, and the market has the appearance of being ex- tremely fatigued. Outsiders will do well to keep out under these circumstances. It would be very risky to sell short and madness to buy long at present, excepting under exceptional cireum- stances when the purchaser has money enough to afford to wait. Tho money market continues to be extremely easy, and there is every prospect that it will continue to be so for a long time to come, The stock market opened with much weak- ness, and soon began to display feverish symp- toms. Toward the close, however, it became a little strouger. There was a general disposition to close up all outstanding coutracts, 50 as to Jeave a clean field for the resumption of busi- ness on the 6th. The brokers hurricd away from ‘business as fast as possible, and by 2:30 the street presented a Sunday aspect. To the Western Associated Presi, New Yous, July 3.—Governmentg@uiet and steady. Railroad bonds inactive. State securities dull and nominal. ‘The stock market was extremely dull through- out theday. In the early dealings speculation was fairly active, but during theafternoon busi- ness was Very tight. The market was, however, generally firm in tone, the advance in prices ringing from to 1% per cent, Lake Shore, Western Union, and coal stocks Jeading the im- provement. Special Dispatch to The Chicago Tribune, Bosros, July 3.—In to-day’s dealings in the stock market a duliness pervaded the entire list, and it was even more noticeable than yesterduy. ‘This, however, is accounted for in a measure by the fact that to-day is. apart holiday, and that muny of the places of business are closed. Land and mining stocks were almost en- trely neglected, and in the {ntter the only change made was an advance of % in Harshaw. The bonds and securities were the most active class on the list, but even these showed no especial feature. Several sules of Union Pacific securities were made at a slight advance, and of the, bonds Hurtford-Erie 7s sold at 41% and 42. Among the railroads Chi engo, Burlington & Quincy was up 35, to 120: New York & New England sold at 30, and Ogdensburg advanced to 2733. There will be no session of the Brokers’, Board Monday, and all business on the strect will’be entirely sus- pended. FOREIGN. A smal crowd of members gathered on the sidewalk. and a fow trades ware mado in gratin; - otherwise the markets were nominal. No ses- sion of the Board will be held til! Tuesday. A few sales of wheat were made on the curb- stone, the feeling being strong at one time, but less s0 atthe close. Tho cable reported higher markets abroad, and the weather here was cloudy. St. Louis was reported lower. The strength here was due chicily to fears of rain, and damage to the cropin the Northwest. Re- ports were circulated that rust had appeared in the wheat. Scller August sold early at 87Xc, rose to 8@88i¢, and closed later at Si%@SSc. A few sales of small lots were made at 883;@88Xc. July was quoted at 894 @s9%c. Corn was quiet and easier, selling early at 354¢ for August, and July wasquoted at 31%c. Oats were easy at 234c seller August, and 23c seller September. Rye was nominal at 59%4@600e seller July, and Sie seller August. The crop is believed tobe about equal in size to that of last year, and is a good one in quality. The rye fleldsof Kansas were damaged somewhat by storms, and com- plaints also come from a few other sections, but the loss is probably not serions. New rye is ar- riving. Barley was quiet and strong at 76@80c for No. 2, and 6;@7Ue for extra 3. Seller September was quoted at 0@50c. It is feared that the crop in some sections hus been stained considerably. New York was quict at $12.65 seller August, and about $12.60 for July. Lard was quoted at $6.75seller next month, and at $6.70seller July, and $6.7714@6.80 seller September. Since the close of the winter scason the number of hogs packed in this city 1oots up 1,655,000 head, against 1,154,- 000 during the same time last year, and 1,178,000 the year before last. At Cedar Rapids the packing to date is report- ed to be 136,616 hogs, against 42,994 last year. Lake freights were steady on the basis of 5c for corn to Buffalo. Several vessels were en- gaged to loed corn. - Wheat was taken for 6c. There wasa quiet market for domestic and foreign dry goods. Very few buyers were pres- ent, and the mail-order business was less than onthe earlier daysof the week. Prices were nominally steady. The market for staple and fancy groceries was fairly active, and the tenor of prices again was firm, sugars and coffees showing special strength. No price-changea were developed in dric& fruits, canned goods, and fish. The demand for butter and cheese was fairly active, and prices were firm, the lat- ter advancing a trifle,in sympathy with New York and Liverpool. Oils were unchanged. Lumber was stendy and active. At the yards orders are coming in freely, and common grades are strong. Cargoes drag a little, but the re- ceipts-are small, and old prices are realized. The wool market was more active and stendier, and No.1 timothy hay was taken by local feed- ers and shippers. Salt, hides, and sceds were quiet. Poultry was steady.
