It wae 8t 0RO LMO belloved that they would be succeesful, and that the consent of all el compsnies interested would be secured, but soch prosesnot to bothe case. Rosl estate dealers aad preperts-owners who hiave beca awaiting thia new movo with impatienco. must defer the sealization of their bopes (o & period which now mecms far remoto. We have already given in this colama 8 history of the project, and at the Gsie of the las: allusion, there was every reason $o believe that the LONG-TALEED-OF UNION DEPOT was eertainly to be, although when and where vac not decided. Since that time the opposition of the Peasvlvauia Central Railrond, and the cer- teiniy that the hostilecourse of Western Legisla- tares toward railroads would make necessary the strictest cconomy, have compelled the aban- doament of the entire scheme. The first con- gact for the union Gepot was drawn up between the Michizan Central, ihe Burlington & Quincy, the Northwesters, the St. Paul, the Clicaxo & Alton, and_Piusburg & Fort Wayue Railroads, wd signed by some of thew. It bound fhem to incorporate under tho State lme, for the erection of a grand tpion depot at some future time. This was given up, snd s second panor atarted, but it was gili less favorably received. COL. SCOTT LOES NOT WANT tse Borlington & Quincy or the Michigan Cen- talunited with the Penrsvlvania Central in such an enterprige. The Northwestern Railroad eould not with auy prudence engage in sach an tadertaking at & time when its revenues are g0 seriously threatened. It may be aurhoritatively exed that the plan for a grand union depot Las been finaliy abandoned. SOME SALES O7 THE WEEK. A BUCKEYE ON TWENTY-SECOND STREET IN 1B5G. BEAL ESTATE IN BAN FRANCISCO. The San Francisco Real Estale Circular mekes the following review of the real estate market of that city for the first balf of 1874, and forecasts the prospects for the future: « The number of bona fide rosl estats eules made in the City and_County of San Francisco during the firet six months of 1874 was greater than the sales effected during the firet holf cf either of the three preceding years, though the official record does not show this. In the firat bedf of the years named there were from 290 to 523 homestesd-association deeds recorded. whichi were but tho closiog of old sales, They were, however, recessarily credited to the periods in which they were recorded, though they did not sotualiy beloog to them. During the Iaa$ aix- manths, only 08 eld homestead desds wero recorded : copsequently, the list of appar- le)nt sales is ot g0 large, though the actusl nxx:n- er of bona-fide sales mado was, a3 wo bave said, ;nuch greater. Their value, too, was much arger. The aggregato value of the eales made 1n the first balf of 1871 was $6,229,716; m the 9\"&& balf of 1872, £6,671,394; in 1573, £5,906,- 501; whiiethe value' of tho ssles made in the first half of 1874 was $3.121,353. This incroase i8 about & fair index of the amount of improve- ment whice has taken placo in real extate within the past half year. The ycar opened with o greatly ncrensed demand, which was steadily maintained up to about the close of March, after which date there was a slackiug-up, as there nearly always is, the best time to scll real esiate in San Francieco beiug, as s rule, between tha close of October and tie cluke of March. * 1t i8 not likely that there will be wuch stir in real estate this yewr, The market is duller at present thao it was ‘in January, February, und March, and it is likely 80 to remin uncil wintor Eoisin. Even then we do not anticipare much more activity than we had between Jast Novem- ber and March. The teudency is decidedly up- watd, howover, and, with money a drug, and everv oue of vur business, industrial, miviag, and axricultaral intorests unexcoptionally prosper- ous, peices must improvo. The prospect is that ill do 80 slowly and in proportion to the incroaso of business und fiolmll‘. n, but the geue:al prayer and wish is tha: the improvement may tzke the shapo of & rush. Tiis it i8 not Iikely to do for at least two vears more, while it will be better for us all in the end if we do not bave any inflationut all. A season of excitement scems very desirable at the time, but i tle end 1t is le:s profitable than & Lusiwess which pro- grosyey steadily upward.” TRANSFERS.
