The children of Taraol ateunicavencd Lread for seven vears ; and ‘their rabbis £ay that God employed the pawer of this number to perfect the greafness of Samuel, his name answoring to the value of the letters in the Hebrew word which signifies seven. Our Lord Jesus Chriat spoke seven times on the cross on which Ho hungz for seven hours; He nappeared roven times, and after geven times s6ven days sent the Holy Ghost. Within thia gacred number were concesled all ‘tho mysteries . of tho Apooalypse revealed tothé sevon chuzches of Asis. - Thore sppearcd seven golden candle- sticks and soven stars in tho hand of Him that was in the midst; seven lamps before the saven spirits of God; seven seals upon the book; seven angels with soven trumpeis; sovon kings ; soven thunders; 7,000 mon elaio. The beast had seven hoads, and seven ngels bore seven plagues and sevén vials of wrath. Tho vieion of B]miel was of seveuty wecks’ duration, aud there were seventy Liders of Isrsel. TLlers were also seven heavens, seven plaucts, saven stars, soven wieo men, ceven champious of Christendom, seven deadly bins, soven ERcTa- ments in the Catholic Church, and geven primary | colors. The seventh son of & seventh son is Fuppozed by soma o possens groat powers of hoaling ; and perfection is Sraked to gola purified seven_times in the furnace ; and we still exclaim, ¢ You've Trightened me out of my seven sonses.” FHippo- crates said that the nnmber of seven by its oc- cnit virtue tended to the accomplishment of all things and was the fountain of all changes ;.and, like - Bhakspears, ho divided our lives into ages ; thinkiog thet, as the moon changes ber phinses overy seven days, this number influences )1 sublunary beings. ~ Tho teeth nsually appoar abont the seventh month, and are shed and rc- nowed in the sevonth year, when infancy chang- o8 to childhood ; &t twice seven years childhood is exchongod for youth ; atthrée times seven the faculties are developed sud manhood com- mences, and we are to become legally compe- tent to all civil acta; ot four times seven man is in full possession of all his strength; at five times seven hois fit for the. business of the world ; at six times seven he becomes grave and Wise, if ever; atsoven times seven his strength is at its height, and from that time it commences to decline; at eight times seven he is in his first climacteric; at nine times seyen he is in his last or grand climacteric, and it is a year of trinl to o coan's life; at ton times scven ho has attained %o what the prophet pronounced the natural period of human life. Thus we eeo that the P umber soven seems to possess some unkoown power which the ancients recoguized, and there- fore termed it the mvatical number. FINE WATCH TTHEREEPERS. MUST BE SACRIFICED.
