Retaflers in different bronches of trade re- port a batter business in consequence of the flne weather. The demsnd for money was light to-dey. The rate of discount is nominal 8t 10 per cent. This rate is adhered to without varistion by come of the banks, whose live of discount is always tolerably foll, owing to their doing 3 veried mercentile business, but otbers with large surplus wili discount choico paper for their cus- tomers at 7@9 per cent for 60 to 90 daye. Lower rates will be taken for call loane. Exchapge was uncertamn. Sales wero made between banks at 25 cents premium for $1,000, »ad st 50 ceuts premium. The tendency is woakening. and this is helped by the sals of exchenge by the country banks. The movement of currency {0 the country continues, but wse nct heavy to-day. The de- mand is mainly from Northern Jows and from Minnesots. Milwaukee bas called for s con- ciderable amount. There was some inquiry on the fioor of the Exchange to-day, a8 to what rights certain mem- bors have auy way, where a questiom of rule conflicts with ono of equity. It seems that & certain member, who may be dosignated as M. A, induced s farmer vieit- ing onthe floor to trade with him, contrary to the rules of tho Board, and now wants a.fellow- member, Mr. B, to pay the damages accrung from & partial non-fulfillment of the contract by the farmer aforesaid. It doea notappear thav Mr. A has ever been censured for an infraction of the rules, whilo Mr.B has been adjudged orthy to pay $500 damages in tho case, becanze some of the proporty in question was consigned to him with instructions to deliver it. THE MARKETS. The leading produce markets were steadier to- day, aod not particularly notive. The weather was very fine, aud favorable to the crops, but the effect of fino weather was felt yesterday, the speculative element generally discounting an event in advance of its matunty. Hencothe weasnosa of Friday was followed by a firmor feeling, ns the lower prices induced buyers to take hold, esgminUy many of those on the short side who had wmted for just such an opportunity. ~ There wero, howaver, not a fow who anticipated & much more severs decline, sud sold sgainst it. The ehipping movement was a ehade more active than on Fridav, though quiot for this season of tne year. The receipts of produca preservé a re- Tarkably even volume, with motaing of the ;Ivnlmch- charactor noted in past years during ay. Dry goods werereported activaat abont stesdy rates, - The grocery market presented no now features. Liberal saleson interior account were accomplishied, sua & fair amount of gooda Wwas also distributed to tLa local retail trude at un- changed and firmly mamtained prices. The butter market continues quist, with prices un- settled and irregular. Good to choice grades are chiefly inquired for, low avd medium quali- ties being more or less neglocted. ~Cheese sold to n moderats aggregate st 1rregular prices. _No changes of importance were developed in connection with the canned-goods avnd fish markets. Driod fruits were active, and all descriptions wers unqualifiedly firm. Cur- rants advanced }fc, snd the tendency in sovoral otber descxigfinn! of foreign and domestio {ruits is in the ssme direction. Nothiog new was noted in the leather, pig-iron, tobacco, and point markets, There was a zood degree of zc- tivityin the oil market, and afl the leading oils were firm. Tho price of hard coal bas declined to £9.00 for Lackawanpa and to £10.00 for pre- pared Lobigh, Bituminous varieties remsin un- changed. 11 There was no spocial change in the condition of affaira at the lumber yards. A fair number of local and interior orders were placed, though the trade, gewerally speaking, is rather light just mow, but will, it s thouglt, soon improve. TThe wholesale market ws ngain quiet, there not being enongh lumber offering to attract bay- ers. A large fleet of lumber -vossels aro expected to arzive by Mondsy morniug, and, if the wind shonid get Tound to the porth, the re- ceipts will doubtless be liberal. Metals, hard- ware, and iron wers moderateiy active aud toler- sbly eteady, some of the metals firm, at the quotations previous'y given, Nails wero quoted st 23.875@100. The wool market was quiot and easy for cld wool, although the amouat offering is very small. Nona of the now clip has yet boen received. Hops, broom- corn and Lides wero unchanged. Timothy hay was quoted firm_at_n higher range, with very Little offering. Prairie was weak aad lower all around, owing to increased receipts, which, with the fine weather, csused:buyers to hold off, Hungarian and nmothy seeds wore aciive and firm, and other descriptions met with a fair in- z"ni:y. Potatoes continue scarce and very firm, the supply being inadequate. Poultry was dull | and easier. : % Like freights wers rathermore aotive, atTun- changed ratee, if we oxoept an ensier fecling on freights to lower lako ports, Thero was a fair demand for small vessels, but fow offering at the current figures, carmers stating that they could only sail ot o loss. Rates were 40 ou whest, and 33{c on corn, by sail ‘to Baffalo; 8¢ on wheat to Kingston; 7350 0u do to Oswego; and 20@21c for com and wheat, on through rate to Now York. Highwines wore active snd firm at the ruling quotations of tho past weok, though New York was reported tamo. Several orders had been Beld back for decline ; but, as 1t came not, the holders concluded to fill, and_tools all thas were offored at previous figares. Saleswere reported of 450 brlsat 94c por gallon. ‘Provisions were more active and stronger, Tn- dor ngood demand, whicn was chiefly for tho speculative articles. Live hogs were in rather less bountiful supply, and Liverpool continues firm on lard, while dealers clsim that they can maie a good profic on shippiog pork to other pointy at present prices. Ahia gave inoreased confidence, especially as the stocks at other Places are relatively small, and an effort will be made during the coming weok to let the world kuow how much we have here. Mess pork advanced 15@200 per brl, and Jard 5@73¢o per 100 Ibs, both closing strong nt the outeide prices of the sossion, with littlo offered. Meats wero in moderate_demand and firm, short ribs being advanced slightly from former quota- tions.
