The tug Jessie Hall has gone to her assistance. —The schooner W. J. Whaling collided with the propellor Plymouth, while being towed out of tEfl Menomonee Biver.. The schooner broke broke her bowsprit, and the propeller had s bole stove in her pantry. . = —The new schooner Thomas H. Howard, sunk at Beaver Harbor, has & cargo of 500 tons of iron ore on board. Dr. Ben Miller was_ visiting a houee in the southern part of the city yesterday, when a man rang the bell and presented a paper, on_which was written: * The bearer of these lines, Williom ‘Walter, has been for treatment fourteen months in the Chicago City Hospital. He lost his hand during the fire, Oct. 9, 1871.” The name of Dr. William Nelson, Warden of the hospital, was signed to the document. The man further stated that Dr. Miller sent him to the institu- tion. The lady of the house asked the doctor if he knew the man. The doc- tor interviewed' the sufferer, and immediatcly saw he wasa fraud. He caught his arm, and discovered that his hand was ingeniously tied up in his _coat sleeve. The doctor proposed to take a walk to the station, and was about to ar- rest the * sufferer,” when he bolted and scratch- ed gravel so fast’ that he escaped.
