(THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 1925 PLANS T0 QUST RET £, HANEY Reconsideration of Re- fusal to Resign Hoped For. SWAMPSCOTT, Mass., Spet. 3.— (Associated Press)}—President Cool- idge is hopeful that Bert HB. Haney of Oregon will reconsider his refusal to.résign as a commissioner of the shipping board. Although extended comment on Mr. Haney’s determination to stay in service despite the presidents’ re- quest for his resignation was with held today at White Court, It was stated that Mr. Coolidge belleved the commissfoner, on thinking the matter over, will realize the {mpro- priety of remaining on the board. Tt is the view of the president that Mr. Haney has shown that he does not Intend to carry out the policy laid down by the merchant marine act and that until he ts of such a determination he should not attempt to hold his place as a board member.
