PAGE SIX. LAGOSTIE IN «FRONT HANK Man Who Beat Norris Williams Plays Consistently. By LAWR NCE PERRY. (Copyright, 1924, Cast Tribune) NEW YORK, July 56.—Lacostfe, the 19-year old French tennis star, who disposed of Norris Williams tn Thursday's play , first came prom!- nently before the attention of Amer- {can enthusiasts last year. He was a member of the Davis cup team and attracted early attention by defeating Francis Hunter in one of the preliminary club tourna- ments. He was also one of the prominent figures in the early stages of our national singles tour- nament. He is a young man of steady temperament and no ac centuated mannerisms. Herein he differs from his fellow countryman, Jean Boratra, who put Vincent Richards out at Wimbledon the other day. e Those who followed the play of Boratra, of the Basque country in France, since he began to come into prominence in 1921, were not at all surprised at his defeat of Richards in the Wimbledon singles. Ameri cans who saw him in 1922 predicted that some day Richards would be at least one star American whom the Frenchman would beat. This be. cause his game {s like Vinnie's only more so. And at Wimbledon, he did it. There cre those who be: eve he is able to take his place as one of the outstanding top flight tennis players of the world. His victory over Richards was by to means his first brilliant success. Back in 1921, he electrified French enthusiasts by defeating Brian Nor- ton in three straight sets at a time When Norton was shining with the reputation of having carried Bill Tilden to five sets. LAGQUER FINI DOMINATE THE MOTOR GAR FIELD, 1S CLAIM “Automobile painting has follow- ed the old vehicle style of finish for over 20 years,” writes Harry Taran- tous, technical editor of Motor. “Changes are coming, have come, and instead of having a finish that will last at the best for 12 months, the owner is given a finish that will retain its looks for twice as long and which is unharmed by mud, rain, dust and other things that in- jure ordinary paint." ‘With its July issue, Motor has entered the trade field as the Auto- motive Business Paper and will be devoted to presenting and interpret- ing questions that confront the in- dustry and the application of mod- ern business methods to them. Ray W. Sherman, editor and James Dal- ton, industrial editor, have been Jong connected “ with automotive publications and the announcement that Motor had entered the trade field has been of great interest to those who have followed their work in the past Horse Helps “Dry Sleuths Locate Stills KLAMATH FALLS, Ore., July 5. —{United Press.)—‘Horse sense” was enlisted by liquor sleuths near here, with the result that today two big moonshine stills are not operat: ing, which otherwise would probably be going full tilt The stills and the horse belonged to the same man, Roy Tanksley, who later pleaded gullty to possees- ing tho stills, “Scotty” Davidson, deputy United States marshal, ex plained. Tanksley, a son of G. W. Tanks- ley, state prohibition officer, was reported to be moonshining, accord- ing to Davidson's story. He had a camp about three files from Klamath Lake and the officers made their way there. Hours spent in searching, however, revealed no evidence. Finally ons of the agents noticed the old horse grazing nearby. Mounting the animal, Deputy Mar- shal Lowe started down a trail.
