TWO ESCAPE JAIL ON TECHNICALITY OF LAW The use of the word “or” in the city narcotic ordinance {n place of the word “and” enabled Betty Rick- ards atd Tom Quinn to obtain their Uberty from a jail sentence last night. The ordinance prescribes that if found guilty the defendants may be fined from $50 to $190 “or” sen- tenced to jail for a not to ex- ceed 90 days. Miss Rickards and Quinn had been fined and paid their fines. Judge Murray also sentenced them to jail. When the discrepency in the ordinance was found out they were given their freedom. The city dads promise to amend this particular ordinance shortly so that 9 narcotic conviction will carry a jail sentence along with the ‘fine prescribed.
