Durham, district governor Girected the thoughts of the Kiwanians toward the national con- vention which will be held in Denver June 16 to 19. Denver is preparing to welcome 6.000 Kiwanians to this convéntion, said Mr. Durham, and those who wish to attend should make their reservations earlier. The convention is of special importance to the Colorado-Wyoming district and: should draw an exceptionally large attendance from clubs in these two states. It may be a long time be- fore another convention of like calibre will be held so close to Casper. A pageant showing the develop- ment of the west will be one of the features of the convention enter- tainment and this will be augment- ed by stunts from the Frontier asso- ciation of Cheyenne. At the luncheon today Harry I. Black, supporter of the bonus, and Hal Curran, a man with directly opposite opinions on the matter, en in an argument extremely personal and ext heated. Black requested Curr suspen sion from the club. n had just passed the point of calling each other uncomplimentary names when the whole thing “broke” and the club enjoyed the laugh which had been “framed” for its benefit. The Natrona County High school serenaders sponsored by Miss Nan Smith gave half a dozen musical selections today. The serenaders compose an orchestra of seven musicians. The numbers they played today were more than pleas- ing and demonstrated remarkable talent. ed LATE SPORTS OMAHA, Neb., Jack Kearns, manager of Jack Dempsey, heavyweight boxing champion, declared here today in an with the Omaha World-Herald, that he is on his way to the Pacific coast to sign articles for a finish fight at Tia- Juana, Mexico, on Labor day be- tween Jack Dempsey and Harry Wills, negro contender. The promoter, Mr. Kearns said, 71.— March is James Coffroth, California sportsman. The match, he dicted, probably will be the - pion’s only ring engagement in 1924, CHICAGO, March 27.—Another world’s record was set in the the American’ Bowling congress tournament today, the last day of competition, when H. and C, Thoma of Chicago scored 1,380 in the doubles, The former mark of 1,358 was held by Wilson and Daw of Milwaukee. K. 6. MINISTER COMING HERE Answering an unanimous call from the First Baptist church here, the Rev. Dr. Bowerman of Kansas City will soon come to Casper as pastor of the church, Sometime ago Dr. Bowerman was in the city, con- ducting Sunday services for the First Baptist congregation for sev- eral Sundays. The new pastor is acknowledged to be a church builder of exceptional ability. Since the church here is seeking to construct a suitable build- ing, his services will be highly ap- preciated. He has gained consider- able reputation in Seattle, Salt Lake City and Kansas Cit $1,000 BOND iS FORFEITED CHEYENNE, Wyo., March 27.— ‘Thomas Ward of Casper forfeited a thousand dollar bond when he failed to appear in federal court here this morning to answer a charge of vio- Jation of the prohibition law. Thomas Murphy of Casper plead- ea guilty to a similar charge and was fined $100. [A Line CaS LATE FLASHES WASHINGTON, March ’ —Senator Borah, Republican, Ida ho, offered a joint resolution in the senate today requesting the pres- ident to invoke “such nations as he deems wise” to send represen- tatives to combined economic and disarmament conference in Washington. WASHINGTON, March 27.—By a margin of one vote the house today rejected mendment to the army appropriation bill to pur- chase 3,600 acres of land at a cost of $366,000 for addition to the Fort Bliss military reservation at El Paso,. Texas. WARSAW, March 27.—(Ry The Associated Press)—Zepliak, head of the Roman Catholic church in Russia, has been realeased from prison in Moscow, the ish for- eign office is officiay informed. WASHINGTON, March 27.—Army and navy records were studied to- day by the senate finance committee in an effort to determine the exact number of veterans entitled to a bonus and their average length of service, #8 a means of ending to some extent the confusion growing out of the huge differences in esti- mates as to the cost of the bonus bill passed by the house With a consistency of excellence that was remarkable, the Wells con- cert last evening at the Elks audi torlum moved smoothly from open ing number to conclusion, All that had been previously said of the admirable abilities of those who had participated in the event was found fully justified. Cook's orchestra itself to be without a peer or stra demonstrated itself to be without a peer in Casper. In fact, it 1s doubtful if it fs surpassed by y orchestra in Wyoming. An innovation was afforded by the Apollo chorus of 40 voices. Out of this group of male singers came the Apollo quartette which was well re celved. There is some regret that it is !m possible to transfer to paper the impressive singing of “The Kiss” by Mrs. Berta Smith, soprano s0- lol Flexibility of voice, range, control and volume were completely shown by Mrs. Smith. Cook's or- chestra provided exactly the proper accompaniment, for the finest back: ground for her singing is assuredly there. Very precise in her technique, Miss Helen Stone, violinist, played with no hesitation the difficult pas- sages of “Son of the Puszta.” There is an aftermath of applause for the “Hunting Scene from Robin Hood” as given by the Apollo chor- us,, It is to be presumed that a general. request will be made for another hearing of this gelection. A feature of the concert was the was developed by the chorus in pit ting high range voices against those of low range. Two different songs were blended together and harmony was the result. Schubert's “Marche” and Chopin's “Grande Valse" were both splendid triumphs for Cook's orchestra. Of some duration but absorbing with exquisite passages, was the overture “Hungarian Lustpsel Another victory for the irreproach- able reproducing qualities for the Ampico piano was in its playing of “Nafla Ballet,” as recorded by Miec- zyslaw Munz. This great artist is to appear in Casper next winter un! der the anspices of the Woman's de- partmental club. Any comment unfavorable to the concert Hes in the lengthiness of the program. It was necessary to omit two numbers in order to bring it to. proper close. Because re- SERVICE CHARGE ON QVERLAND CARS LOW In support of its claim that the service charges and the cost of re- pairs upon’ the new Overland are the lowest in the United States, the Wyoming Oldsmobile company, Cas- per agents for the Overland, have made a startling offer-to Overland owners. With each new Overland car sold by them they give a guar- antee that the entire upkeep cost of the new car for its lifetime will not exceed $35 per year. This fig- ure of course is exclusive of the gas, oll and every-day needs of any motor car, The buyer of an Overland car simply adds $35 to the original cost and receives a guarantee from the company that no charges will be made for any service work which may be done upon his machine for the period of one year. This guar antee is renewable at the date of its expiration. — PARIS, March {By The As- sociated Press}—Raymond Poin- care consented this evening to re- sume the premiership which he re- signed yesterday over a defeat of the ministry in the chamber of deputies, MOTHER!
