@bde Casper Daily Cridune “THE GREEN GODDESS” GREAT PHOTODRAMA 1S PLAYING AT AMERICR ‘The mysticism of the orient has Jong been the subject for story writers and dramatista. Occasion- ally photop!aywrights have attempt- ed to use it as the background of their film plots, but rarely with any conviction of success on the part of the audience. In “The Green God- dess” which opened a four-day run at the America theater yesterday there has been produced on the screen a dramatic success, and the version on the silver sheet has proved its possibilities of success also. George Arliss, legitimate stage, is found in the character of the Rajah of Rukh, ruler of a northern province of In dia, an autocrat in every respect. ‘Three of his brothers, princes of the royal line, have been sentenced to die by the English government. Major Crespin, p'ayed by Harry T. Morey, his wife played by Alice Joyce, and his wife's friend played by David Powell, while flying across India are forced to the ground near the palace of the Rajah. They are taken captive and are to be forced to pay with their Ifves for the lives of the princes con- demned to death. They are treated with the courtesy however, and are in every way guests of the Rajah of Rukh except for tha fact that the shadow of death is hanging over them. While sending a wireless message to the government alr forces, the major is discovered and killed by the Rajah. He has long been in the way of the love between his wife and her friend the captain. ‘The last two members of the party are stil] In danger and are on the point of death when rescued. One cannot say too nigh for the acting of George Arliss in this pic- ture. His personality, his genius, predominates to such an extent that the Rajah of Rukh ts really the big theme of the photodrama. The costuming !s gorgeous, and in keep- ing with the setting of tho story. “THE CHEAT” SHOWING. | LAST TIMES TONIGHT The final showings of the Para- mount picture, “The Cheat,” which veteran of the opened at the Risito theatre last Saturday, will take place there this afternoon and evening.
