Maxwell's history throughout tho winter and spring has been one of continuous activity and it is reported that orders have constantly remained well ahead of production. As pro- duction gradually mounted toward peak season requirements, demand likewise increased at an ever grow- ing rate, and even with the fulfill- ment of the present high schedules Maxwell's facilities to produce are with public demand, leved that shipments of the size made on April 21 will be a common occurrence for Maxwell from now on. Maxwell's increasing business of past months {s well reflected in the quarterly statement of the company, that shows a néet profit of over one million dollars for the period. Cash balances since the first of the year have been increased more than two million dollars, and despite the heavy buying necessitated by the tremend- ous production attained, no bank loans are carried. It must also be remembered that Maxwell manufac- tures its product almost in its en- tirety in its large plants in Detroit, Dayton, Ohio and Newcastle, Ind., and that the absence of bank loans is all the more remarkadie because of the enormous capital needed for the building of a “manufactured” car. With reference to the record ship- ment of the 21st, it is also interest- ing to note that the day’s output of five hundred and forty-eight cars represents sixteen more vehicles than were produced and scld by the old Maxwell-Briscoe company in the first full year of manufacturing.
