MAROUIS For Sheriff REPUBLICAN TICKET " PRIMARIES, TUESDAY, AUGUST 22 Tn the last 11 months a total of $12,000 has been collected in fines from vio- lators of the prchibition laws in Natrona County and this amount has been paid into the county treasury. This is almost three times the amount collected in any two years here since the passage of the Volstead act, ¥ In the same period 40 criminals have been sent from Natrona County to the state penitentiary. Thoroughness on the part of the sheriff's office in obtaining evidence resulted in all but four of these criminals pleading guilty. This saved the county a huge expense. Many of these men were classed with the worst characters known to the police and detective agencies of the country. Letters on file in the sheriff's office show that the closest harmony and co-op- eration have prevailed between the Natrona county officials and the department of ee the narcotic agency and the federal and state law enforcement depart- ments. The protection of life, home and property hes been the watchword of the de. partment and the highest moral standards of the community have been perpetu- ated insofar as the sheriff's office was able to accomplish it. The statement of Sheriff Marquis to those whose support he ks at T day’s primaries is as follows: : wie see he “In these days when hearsay is accepted without Investigation; when the terms ‘ring’ and ‘graft’ are used thoughtlessly or maliciously; when it is easier to criticize a law enforcing officer than to dig in and help him, the burdens of a sheriff are doubly arduous. In seeking the nomination for sheriff on the Republi- can ticket I stand squarely on my official oath for the enforcement of law fairly, equitably and effectively. I stand for those moral standards which will make Casper and Natrona County attractive to the best citizenry of the land. I am bound by no promise, subservient to no ring, class or creed. I am free to serve both county and city and eager to do so.” This Advertisement Paid for by Friends of J. L. Marquis. TO THE VOTERS OF NATRONA COUNTY: Without neglecting your business and absenting myself from the oGice it would be impossible to meet each of you personally and solicit your support for re-election as County Assessor, and I am taking this method of acquainting you with the fact that I am a candidate for re. election. : In asking your support I fee] that you should know the condition of your business and desire to state that the assessed valuation of Na- trona County is approximately $60,000,000.00, divided into more than 6,500 tax schedules and that the amount of poll tax handled last year amounted to $19,000.00. My aim as County Assessor has been to equalize the values and to secure a fair assessment for each one of you; to see that no man pays more than his just share toward the support of our government, state, county and city. ps sae il Lace ak If the service rendered in the past meets with your approval I will thank you for your support at the primary election on August 22.
