For ‘120 Ball Games Instead of 140 C. P. Arbogast, manager of the Casper Midwest baseball club, won his fight to prevent freak deliveries in the Mid- west league this season, after one of the most bitter argu- ments which marked the conference of the chiefs of the baseball moguls of the Rocky mountain region which was concluded in Denver yesterday afternoon. Another important point that helps the local team_is the playing season to 12 stead of 140 as was planned at first. ‘The hottest session of the confer- ence developed when Arbogast stated q his position in opposition to freak de- liveries while Gcorge Tebeau, manager of the Denver “Bronchos"” and who is said to have two shine ball stare on his staff, fought just as hard for the) privilege of using the shine and emery ball. That Arbogast won his point is shown by the penalties adopted. The offending pitcher on firgt offense will be suspended from his club ten days without pay and on the second offense will be barred ffom the league. The adoption of the no freak de- livery will prohibit the ‘‘shine bal! emery ball’ and other kindred deliv- eries. The “spitter” is still permis- sible, however, if the ball is not marred by any foreign substance. A uniform admission charge of 75 cents was adopted by the six clubs. This is the samie price that Class AA to Class D are charging. Congress- men from Colorado,» Wyoming and Nebraska, the three states represented by Midwest league teams, will be sent resolutions asking for repeal of the war tax on sporting goods and on admissions to baseball parks. The Goldsmith ball was adopted as the official pellet to be used in league games. It was decided that all clubs would pool their gate receipts on the Fourth of July for equitable distribu- tion. Umpires Dale and Brydon have been named to start the season. Another umpire from some eastern point will be named to assist these two men in handling the games. NEW FE LER ADDED TO CASPER STAFF. Shooter Spahn, the pitcher who held the Denver. Bronchos to three hits in a game whickwyas played in Denver this week, has been signed for a try- out by the local club. He will in all probabiiity make his first appearance here against the Greybull team Sun- day afternoon. Manager Arbogast picked Spahn up while he was in Denver upon the recommendation of Matt Mesh, a baseball expert in tho Colorado capital.
