PERS RNS ESS SRE LEARN Lon with 197: by Byron Williams, Sally. They are enamored of the town and the people and are anticipating great pleasure in the new surroundings. Just a few blocks away lives another family in a beautiful house which is for sale, The members of this home, are thoroughly dissatisfied. They don't like the house, the people or the climate. In fact, they are almost pray. ing for a buyer. The situation re- minds me of the soldier in Cuba who so longed for New York that he was balf a mind to try swimming home. A raw recruit, overhearing him, re- marked: “I'm glad you like it. As for me, if I were in New York I would try float- ing here on a Saginaw shingle—for I can’t swim a stroke.” Question of Support. A jewel advertisement ina Mich igan newspaper says: “Not many young ladies are able to support such a fold watch as we are offering.” The | young inen of the town should bé ware! A young woman who cannot suppert a gold watch, in all probabil ity would be a mighty poor provider for a husband Fits. First Editor—“I see a man gave a woman his seat in a street car—and immediately had a fit!” Second Editor—“That must have been in New York city.” First Editor—“Wh. Second Editor—‘“If it had been in Chicago the man, the woman and the passengers would have had the fit!” Etiquette. A Texas girl recently sent this ex- traordinary request to the editor of her church paper: “Do you think it right for a girl to sit on a man’s lap even if she is engaged?” The editor answered her question thus: “If it were our girl and our lap, yes; if it were another fellow’s girl and our lap, yes? but if it were our girl and an- other fellow’s lap, never!” Mixing His Words. The editor of the Farmington (la.) News has joined the temperance bri- gade, and tells why in the following: The News last Friday, innocently ac- | credited the Christian Endeavor with playing cards at the M. H. Morse home, when nothing of the kind was intended. For two and a half days last week we had a new printer, but “booze” got the best of him and now he is gone. The printer mentioned, set the society item in question and caysed the word “candy” , to read “cards” and omitted a half dozen | words at the end of the item. Maybe He Wore Bib-Overalls. " A hobo, detained in Missouri, has | serietisly confused the physiologies by placing the organ of emotion in a somewhat basic or frontal position relative to the anatomy of man. The Springfield Leader says: A Springfield policeman who appreci- ates the pathetic notwithstanding his pro- fessional sternness, tackled a hobo yes- terday and was going to rum him in. The “bo” had shipped on board a couple of big ones and was beginning to think well of himself. He looked reproachfully at | the officer and said: | “My trousers may be ragged, but they | cover a warm heart!” An imminent Danger. ‘ The Kewanee (Ill) Star is moved! to remark that no one knows where! lightning and post-cards will strike next.
