Kansas City Boy Convicted of Murder is Insane and Dan- gerously lil. Jefierson City, April 24.—Governor Folk granted a sick pardon to Will- fam Lamphere, of Jackson county, who is in the prison hospital. Lam- phere is insane and {s said to be dy- ing of consumption. A condition of the pardan is that if Lamphere is re- stored to health and reason he {s to return to the penitentiary and com- plete his sentence. Lamphere was serving @ fifty year sentence for aec- ond degree murder. When “Willie” Lamphere was six- teen years, he and Louis Kiper, a boy his own age, entered the homeof Rolla Guerin, a huckster living in the rear of 621 Holmes street, and shot him through the head as he lay sleeping beside his wife. The shot was fired by Lamphere. They were after money, In the criminal court later both boys were permitted to plead guilty to murder tn the second degree, and they were sentenced to the penitentiary for fifty years, That was November 4, 1899. Two years later, while working in one of the shops at the penitentiary, Lam- phere fought with George Wilson, another convict, and killed him with a knife. The ceremony of there- moval was attended by Ambassador Porter, Henry Vignaud, first secre- tary of the embassy; (olonel Bailly- Blanchard, second secretary, and John K. Gowdy; consul general. The Rey. Dr. Morgan recited a pray- er as the body was placed in the vault. ‘The body lies in the original co ffin in which it was found April 14 in the old St. Louis cemetery. The coffin has been encased in a hand- some oaken casket, around which a large American flag is draped. Philadelphia, April 24.—The upper branch of theclty council, by a unan- imous vote, adepted a resolution that the government be requested to designate Philadelphia as the place for the burial of the body of Admiral John Paul Jones. The resolution makes the request on the fact that the American navy had its origin in Philadelphiain Revolutionary times, and that the commission of John Paul Jones as lieutenant in the American navy and his flag was re- ceived by him from the city of Phila- del phia.
