Washington, April 24.—Despite | President Roosevelt's act in chang: | {ug the officlal name Executive Man- | slon to White House, so maay gov- ernment officials have persisted in using the old style that Secretary Shaw has been obliged to issue an order to all Treasury employees to use the name White House. Hither- to there has been no order on the subject. Mr. Roosevelt supposed that one would be unnecessary and 8o con- tented himself with « communication to the cabinet officers calling their attention to the change. This, it seems, has not been sutticlent, hence | Mr. Shaw's order. The name Execu- tive Mansion was officially used by all the Presidents from Washington to McKinley, but the people could not be induced to use it, They pre- ferred the less pompous title. Mr. Roosevelt decided to make their pre- ference official. He had all official paper printed with the words, The White House, and dated all his mes sages and state documents in that! way. Chillicothe, Mo., April 25.—Feder- ated committees from the Missouri conferences of the Northern and Southern Methodist churches took the first step here today in a move- ment which many ministers think will result {In an ultimate union of the two churches The committees met here for the purpose of putting In force the plans for “mutual absorption,” adopted by the last conferences of the two Methodist bodies, Under this plan ft is agreed that where both denominations are re presented in a town ana one congre- gation is much weaker than the other, the weaker shall be absorbed by the stronger, and that the com- bined congregation shall retain the name of the stronger body. The ministers went into executive session, and after lengthy delibera- tions announced that they would recommend that fn Mexico the first or Northern, Methodies Church should be disbanded and be absorbed by the Southern Methodist congrega- tion, and that in Cameron theSouth- ern Methodist congregation should be absorbed by the Northern Church. No further action was taken, for the reason that the ministers regard the new movement as an experiment, and they are desirous of seeing how it works at these two pointe before makingany other recommendations. The Reverend R. H. Cooper, of Fayette, Presiding Elder in the Southern Methodist Church, acted as chairman of the two sessions, All the delegates preeent expressed them- selves freely and the meeting was very harmonious, The committee’s recommendations are considered final, and it is expect- ed that the four churches affected will obey at once, Identifies Husband’s Body After It is Disinterred. From th Philadelphia Ledger (Ind.) As a matter of course Governor Folk, of Missouri, has his enemies, and they are now engaged in an ‘ate tempt to show that he did not achieve very much, after all, in his war on boodlers. The number convicted is of the least importance. The great work was in showing that there is such a thing as official probity; that boodlers cannot forever dominate legielative bodies without exposure, and that a district attorney may be superior to all temptation to betray his trust. It is known that he could have commanded almost any sum foalfature. That he did nothesitate, but promptly followed the Path of honesty and duty, did much to strengthen the forces of virtue throughout the land. Denver, April 25.—Dr. I. 8.
