es _ THE BISMARCK ‘TRIBUNE, FRIDAY, AUGUSI 28, 1936 _ WELFARE GRANT 1 $125 000 FOR SPT. | Appropriation Partially Match- ed by County Funds, Board Member States An appropriation of $125,000 .of state and federal monies has been made by the state welfare board for the month of September, R. R. Morgan of Grafton, board mem- ber, announced Friday following a board meeting. brings to about $1,500,000 the amount appropriated by the welfare board since the first of the year, is only “partially matched” by county funds, according to Morgan, chairman of the board publicity committee. There is now about $363,000 in the state welfare board fund to last un- til July, 1937, Morgan stated, asserting that at “the rate appropriations are “being used it will only last until the first of the year.” He said this pro- blem will “demand attention” of the legislature. The board member estimated that approximately 5,000 persons in North Dakota over the age of 65 years are getting old age assistance from the welfare board. Morgan said the board was adding from 500 to 1,000 persons to its lists monthly and that he expected the peak load in the state would be around 7,000 persons. In July 788 persons were added to wel- fare board lists. The state welfare board has ap- proved a plan of aid for the blind which is now before the social secur- ity board at Washington, Morgan stated. He announced a program to aid cripples and dependent children in the state would be placed before the board at its meeting here next month. ‘Business on Upgrade, Federal Bank Reports Minneapolis, Aug. 28—(#)—Cash income of northwest farmers in June and July maintained the highest level since 1930 and was far above that of last summer, while general business in the ninth reserve district, measured by bank debits, also was larger than in any month in more than five years, the federal reserve bank of Minne- apolis reported in its monthly review Friday. Government estimates placed the June income of farmers in Minnesota, the Dakotas and Montana at over $57,000,000, nearly double the $31,- 000,000 of June 1935, the bank report showed. There were increases of re- ceipts from sales of crops, livestock and livestock produgts and govern- mental rental: and benefit payments. The reserve bank estmates farm in- comes in the four states from the six major products at $35,000,000 in July against $26,500,000 in July last year. Norway Will Confine Trotzky to Own‘Home Oslo, Norway, Aug. 28.—(#)—The Norwegian ministry of justice Friday was reported to have ordered Leon Trotzky and his wife interned and two of his secretaries expelled from this country. The Trotzkys, the report stated, will be confined in their house at Hoene- foss until a new domicile can be found for them. It was understood the reason for the action was Trotzky's refusal to accept conditions which the govern- ment sought to impose for his con- tinued stay in Norway. although it was announced earlier in the week he had affixed his signature to a pledge to abstain from any typ2 of revolu- tionary activity.
