“PLANS DRAWN FOR GREATER DIRIGBLE Goodyear Will Construct Giant | Airship Probably for Transatlantic Route Akron, Ohio, April 24—()—Paul ‘W. Litchfield, president of the Good- year Zeppelin corporation, announced Friday engineers for the concern had drawn plans for a cirigible greater in size than Germany’s giant of the air, the new Hindenburg. ‘The ship, he said, would be the largest in history, 850 feet long and 145 feet in diameter. This length —_—SE———E—E—EE—E—— NATIONAL BISCUIT COMPANY would exceed that’of the Hindenburg by 75 feet, he added. Litchfield refused to say whether negotiations were under way for the sale of the proposed airship. He said, however, that three eastern | |! cities are now under consideration as the American terminus for permanent airship service between this country and Europe.. He named these as Philadelphia, Alexandria, Va. and Richmond, Va. If it is nec- essary to duck going up or down, that is just too bad, but the stairs go in that way just the same. If a 10 or 12 inch rise from one step to the next must be used to get the stairway in, that also is just too bad, but in they go, in spite of the fact that probably more heavy loads are carried up the cellar stair: than any other. In many Cases no railings are provided, and the treads, or steps, are made of any kind of left-over planks that may be around. Cellar stairs need not be well fin- ished like the main stairs, but they should have just as much considera- tion as far as safety and usability Js concerned. The head room should be adequate; the height of the rise should be not over 8 inches; the treads should be sturdy and wide enough for full bearing for a good sized foot; a strong railing should be provided from top to bottom, and not cut off at the floor line; the width should be not less than 2 feet 6 inches in the clear, and preferably 3 feet; if winders are used, there should be no more than. two diagonal steps to a ninety degree turn.
