Tribune’s Grain, Livestock and Market Report for Sat., April 18 STOCK PRIGES SAG AS SALES PRESSURE IN MART CONTINUES Johns-Manville Break ‘of Ten| Points Due to Earnings Is Unsettling New York, April 18.—(#)—Stocks gave, way under further selling pres- sure in Saturday's stock’ market, many declining fractions to around 2 points and some much more. A break of around 10 points in Johns-Manville on an unfavorable earnings report, was an unsettling in- fluence. The close was heavy. Trans- fers approximated 850,000 shares. Shares of Indian Refining again bucked the trend, but the principal losers included Case, DuPont, Pull- man, Owens-Illinois, U.S. Industrial Alcohol, Westinghouse, Kennecott, Cerro de Pasco, U. 8. Steel, Bethle- hem, Otis Steel, Midland Steel Pro- cucts, Chrysler, Santa Fe, Union Pa- cific, N. Y. Central, Delaware & Hud- Gon, Electric Auto-Lite, Briggs Mfg.,|© Bendix and Stewart-Warner. Wheat again pushed forward ~ to new seasonal highs. Cotton improved. Secondary railway bonds were soft. Foreign currencies were fairly steady. FINANCIAL REVIEW New York, April 18—(#)—In spite of generally favorable business news, | Se] the stock market picked its way gingerally during the past week. On the whole the advantage fell to the sellers, although volume of trad- ing was restricted. News from the trade and industrial front afforded cheerful reading to fi- nancial interests, even if it did not serve to send them into the market for shares, The brightest records were turned! yy; in by the automobile industry nea had the best production week since the summer of 1929, and by the steel- makers who stepped up the output pace to the fastest speed in six years. GRAIN REVIEW Minneapolis, April 18.—(?)—Stim- ’s |ulated by continued dry weather con-. ‘ ‘ditions in the hard winter wheat belt and by an enlarged milling demand, wheat prices advanced sharply during the week ended Fri- day. Feed grains were stronger with fluence of a broader cash demand. New crop wheat prices as reflected in the deferred deliveries in winter wheat markets were outstandingly new crop outlook, while the prob- ability that the coming year would develop no surplus strengthened wheat prices also. A much better flour business was reported by millers and their de- mand for cash wheat strengthened the market materially.
