I | RETAILERS’ BUSINESS TOTALS $110,557 400 FROM MAY 4, DEC. 10 Receipts From Sales Tax Are $2,211,148 for Same Period In N. D. North Dakota retailers recorded a gross business totaling $110,557,400 between May 1 and Dec. 10, exclusive of relief workers, cigarets, beer and gasoline, it was reported Friday to Governor Welford by the state sales tax division. ‘Total receipts from-the 3 per cent Bales tax to the close of business Dec. 10 was $2,211,148, R. R. Smith, direc! of the sales tax division, reported. ‘The largest percentages of the total retail business was done by the auto- motive group, food group and general merchandise group, according to the feport. Inclusion of relief orders and com- modities on which taxes are paid to the state in other ways would bring total retail sales to more than $150,- 000,000 for the period, it was esti- mated. - ‘The business reported Friday by the sales tax division was done by 18,784 rétail dealers in the state who are on the rolls of the sales tax offices. They represent an increase of 4,619 retail- ers over the 14,165 that were making sales tax payments July 1, Smith sal TRANSATLANTIC AIR SERVICE SCHEDULED American and British Airways Combine to Begin Flights In 1937 Washington, Dec. 13—(#)—Plans to begin a regular scheduled transatlan- tic air service between New York and England by the summer of 1937 were announced Thursday by R. Walton Moore, assistant secretary of state, at the close of conferences with British, Irish and Canadian government of- ficials. Moore’s statement said the regu- larly scheduled service will involve four round trips per week. The service will be operated by the Pan-American Airways, an American concern, and the British Imperial Airways Limited, using two routes, the northern airway via Canada, Newfoundland and the Irish Free State, and the southern via Bermuda and Puerto Rico. The statement said American At- lantic seaboard ports now being con- templated as possible terminals for the line are New York City, Balti- more, Cape Charels or Norfolk, Va., and Charleston, 8. C. Moore said it was expected experi- mental flights for the service would wee early in the summer of 1936.
