Bought Every Available Bushel in Canada Chicago, Dec. 13.—(?}—Wheat prices wildly skyrocketing to maximum lim- its permitted, and the volume of transactions more than double nor- mal, accompanied word Friday of Sensational Argentine government price-fixing. The most spectacular result was astonishing expansion of overseas de- mand for wheat from Canada, at Present the world’s chief available source of supply. Talk was current that Europe Friday had eagerly bought every bushel that Canada had offered, possibly 20,000,000 bushels. In the day’s final dealings in Chi- cago, wheat prices having reached the day's topmost allowed before Satur- day, and no offerings to sell being available at a lesser level, trade came to a complete halt for the time being. Wheat closed nominally strong, 5 above Thursday’s finish, May 1.00% corn 1%-2% up, May 61-61%; oats 15s-1% up, and provisions unchanged to a rise of 7 cents. PRICES HUG CEILING IN MINNEAPOLIS PIT Minneapolis, Dec. 13.—(?)—In gen- erally light trade, wheat futures ended| the day hugging the ceiling because of the action of the Argentine gov- ernment in fixing wheat prices. Other news was scarce and received little attention from traders who watched prices skyrocket from the opening gong with a five cent leap, the full limit allowed for one day's trading. Profit taking brought on fractional setbacks throughout the session, but at the close all wheat futures were up the five cent limit. December wheat futures closed at 1.12%, May at 111 and July at 1.08%. Coarse grain futures also were strong. December oats closed 2c higher and May 1% to 1%c up. December rye closed 3c up and May 3%%c higher. De- cember feed barley closed 1c higher and May 1%c up. December malting barley closed 1%c up. December corn was up 2%c. Both December and May flax jumped 10 cents. Cash wheat was firm and demand fairly active. Winter wheat demand was good. Durum was in good de- mand. Corn was fair to good. Oats demand was fair to good. Rye was slower. Barley was in good demand. Flax was in quiet to good demand. But even more awesome and mys- terious than its expanse of green tableland are the hundreds of ruins that point to an ancient race that once inhabited its cliffs. This area now is Mesa Verde National Park, in Colorado, and perhaps its most interesting ruin is the Cliff Palace, built by the ancients in one of the caves that had been cut into the cliffs by streams, ages ago.
