THE BISMARCK TRIBUNE, TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 26, 1935 Bicaty Has Wise Politicians Baffled. ——~ Judges Advise Grain Futures} , Morgenthau Niece | Seized as Picket Caution ‘and Curiosit Curiosity Prevail! as Smart Men Wait for Time to Tell By BYRON PRICE Washington, D. C., Nov. 26.—The new Canadian trade treaty has some of the wisest politicians completely stumped, The agreement is far more techni- cal and involves a far greater num- ber of commodities than had been expected generally. It cuts across political lines in a most confusing manner, The verdict of many lead- ers is that only time can tell which party will benefit most. Advance reports were that much political dynamite was wrapped up in the treaty provisions. That still may be true; but it will require the burning out of a delayed fuse to dis- close how great the exposion will be. Meantime caution and curiosity strike the prevailing note. It will take months to test the ireaty in actual operation, and that seems likely now to provide the only fully reliable yardstick of the politi- cal reaction. If the aggregate of trade with Canada increases materially, and no particular group in this country is damaged seriously in the process, Democratic spellbinders may be ex- pected to put the trea high on their “pointing-with-pride” list in the 1936 campaign. If things go wrong, however, if re- Morgenthau, Brooklyn, N. Y.
