FASHION MOVEMENT ELIMINATES STYLE New Dresses, Coats, Hate Do Complete Turn About in Models for 1935 Bury your dead! You might just as well face the fact that last year’s clothes are out of the running this fall, A new collar, or pining a posy at the neckline will not work the won- der you want it to this year. Better to fling them all away, or send them out to Aunt Matilda, Makeshifts just won't get by, for clothes are too en- tirely different. Skirts Consider Take out your old dresses from their moth balls, and what do you see? Slim, slim skirts, very often with @ slit or two at the hemline. Rather longish skirts, too, even on your street fre Last year, and the year before, and even the year before, skirts were straight as straight. They kept getting more so, until skirts ap- proached match-stick slimness, and walking was imperiled. What hap- pened? Designers gave us slits so we could have our slim skirts and still walk and dance with ease. But there has been quite enough of that, too much really. Tired eyes are glad for 8 new silhouette just born. Skirts have grace of line again, thank good- ness. They fit through the hips, but from there they flare in bell fashion ..@ direct contrast to last year. Bell flares aren't the only difference. There are pleats, all around pleats, godets, gores, a dozen ways of making skirts graceful and young and flattering. Everyone can wear these new skirts «+. Not just a slim size 12, as was often the case with last year's clothes. Skirt» As skirts flare and go full, they row shorter, another feature which marks the new season. Don't try to rejuvenate a last year’s tight skirt by shortening it. The result will be a sad little affair. that looks chopped off and completely wrong. The shorter skirt is bound .to find popularity for it is young, makes one feel young, and look young and act young. Interest to the Front Have you a little butcher boy in your wardrobe? A fine enough fashion for last year, but sad enough now! For any frock that shows so much fullness in the back is a dead give away that it has been hoarded in a closet for too long a time. ‘This year backs are plain and sleek. ‘The importance of a dress is centered entirely at the front or side. There may be all the fullness in the world concentrated in the front, but backs hug the figure and give everyone ®@ grand figure. Coats Are Different If you-are going to try:to make last year’s little model serve again this winter, we warn you, you'll suffer. Every time you meet your smart friends they'll be in these new coats with a wide, flaring skirt that wraps @round them in a luxurious manner. «+. and there you will be slim coated as of last season and last. ». There are many coats with bloused “Backs this season, last year every back was plain: Last year’s coats are in- deed sorry affairs when faced with the smarter new things. High Hats Tumble Last year hats towered as high as they could. One went about looking for all the world like a modern Robin Hood, with peaked crowns, gigantic fezzes, nearly all topped with a stiff quill to add to the height. How out of place these hats would be with to- days soft feminine clothes. Incon- gruous for a Grecian draped dress to be accompanied by a Robin Hood hat! Every person suffering from Fis- tula, Piles or other rectal trouble is urged to write The Thornton & Minor Clinic, Suite 478, 926 McGee &t., Kansas City, Mo., for their free book which explains what complica- tions may develop if these treacher- ous afflictions are neglected. This valuable book has been prepared by @ noted authority on rectal and col- onic diseases and gives full details of the mild Thornton & Minor methods by which more than 46,000 patients have been treated in the past 68 years.—Advertisement. [ Mei ‘With large pleces of jewelry very much the current vogue, the mesh bag, glittering under all lights, is particularly appropriate for eve- ning use. ' Jessica Dragonette carries one designed by Schia- parelli. No, the new dresses must be topped by soft berets, wide-eyed little halos, or soft, flattering brims. Feathers are good fashion, but not the sharp quill ++. your new feathers are soft and curling like ostrich. Sleeve Changes Even sleeves have undergone great changes for the autumn season. Last year's sleeves were set in, in the simp- | lest manner possible. The raglan line was the height of intricacy. But look at the sleeves this year. They go in for drapes. They are pleated. They are tucked. They are set in as deeply as waist deep in dolman fash- jon. Shoulders are no longer plain. ... they are soft and feminine and important, taking on all sorts of in- spired lines, New Colors Even the color palette has felt the effect of time and change. Last year's, first fall dresses that were in shown in brown and black, were in strange off colors, as subtle grays, olive toned greens . .. colors to be worn with discretion. This year's shades are the vibrant hues of the Italian Renaissance. There are rich reds and rusts, glowing greens, new shades of purple like the stained glass windows in church, deep plum shades, gingery browns, besides the very chic black and dark brown. . Everything about-the new fashion, from silhouette to color to trim, sets them apart from any other clothes you have been wearing. Their new-/| ness, their sharp contrast to the past, ; make them the immediate “must-| haves” in. your life. | Innovations Brought To Styling Hosiery Hoisery stylists have felt the in- spiration of the Grecian and oriental influences, and a colorful season is about to unfold. But great care must be exercised in color selection, They must be more perfect with the cos- tume than in previous seasons, for skirts are growing shorter and more stocking is in sight. Spicy Browns The spicy browns hold an import- ant.place. They are smart with gin- ger shoes, and most of the brown coat and dress shades. They are grand with greens. When they are sheer enough, they are extremely smart with black. ‘There are lots of neutral brownish shades that may. be worn with any costume you own. The gray tones, such as gunmetal take a back seat in this colorful season. Colored Stockings The popularity of navy blue stock- ings this past spring has spurred hoisery makers on to colors. A shade of red, a kind of brownish wine is appearing here and there in Paris with Dubonnet shoes, Green tones are also being seen. Shall we be wear- ing colors in our stockings before another season has rolled around? Some designers say “yes.” ORDER YOUR COAL BY NAME ‘Wear the thinnest you can afford, and if your gown ts light, choose your stockings in the nearest tone to your | skin that you can find. Be sure that | heels are tiny and unobtrusive. = THE BISMARCK TRIBUNE. MONDAY, OCTOBER 28, 1935 FRONT CENTER OF NEW DRESS CHARM Shirring, Pleating, Godets and Gores Are High Points of Interest This Year Literally, an autumn dress must be put up a good front to be in the fash- ion running. They must show detail of line and trimming in the front to definitely mark them new. This is @ ‘pleasant feature which is certain to find popularity with women, and one of which they do not tire quick- ly. This is most important, for au- tumn dresses are usually the most worn frocks in a wardrobe. Shirrings Galore Much front detail is expressed in shirring used over the shoulders, and at the waistline and some inches be- low. When it is used thus, where the shirring ends the fabric falls into graceful lines which gives the skirt new fullness, Pleats are another means of front expression. They are used in clusters, stitched part of the way down and} then allowed to flare in the modish manner. Godets are another fashion. Drapery is also seen in many skirts. It is suggestive of Grecian robes and is extremely charming for afternoon dresses. Advanced age is no deterrent to | business ambitions of Mrs. Jose- phine Wuppermann (above). At 84, she has signed papers making her the head of a $1,000,000 corporation, in which she is assisted by her two sons, Frank and Ralph Morgan, the actors. (Associated Press Photo) high neckline is destined to go on again this autumn. It is flattering beyond words and is an excellent foil for jewelry. There are jabots and scarfs, and drapery used here, too, in many distinctively new ways. Bodice importance is one of the designers’ pets this season. Sleeves have gone in for inflation by means of pleats and folds and gathers. The result is loose, ladylike affairs, and charming dolman effects. Princess Lines The princess line lives again, and there is little question but that it will be the reigning fashion with the young set. It molds the waist, fits smartly through the hips and then flares out bell fashion. They are both belted and unbelted ... a sil- houette as lovely for night as for day. Sleeves and Necklines Tt seems that when women find a fine fashion they won't let go, so the tai iene aaaainalasil | DRIVES THIEF FROM BEDROOM Wakened by prowlers in her bedroom, Isabel Ricks, 19-year-cld daugh- ter of the recently murdered oil magnate, Alfred E.
