The | story, an apic of American life, has} been dramatized by Ernest Pascal, iimself an author of note, and should | Prove to be a powerful and dynamic picture, | The characterizations have been wonderfully and realistically drawn from the lives of the rugged New England pioneer types and are said to be portrayed by an unusual cast, each member of which was carefully selected because of his or her peculiar fitness for the part. | Jean Muir, the tall, stately blonde | former stage player, who has recent- Jy leaped to leading picture roles, has the feminine lead of Jen, a farmer's daughter who loves the soil that has nurtured her and whose strong sense of values holds even her love life in check until the man she cares for has demonstrated his own deep at- tachment for the good earth. Donald Woods, a youth who has attracted considerable attention on the stage, makes his picture bow in “As The Earth Turns,” as Miss Muir's Jover, the city boy who reverts to the farm. Dorothy Appleby is the dis- turbing element of the drama, her erotic nature and flirtatious manner nearly wrecking not only Miss Muir's Clark Gable, Myrna Loy in ‘Men in White’ A new and remarkable screen team is playing now at the Paramount Theatre—Clark Gable and Myrna Loy. You've known them both for some time, but you've never really know them until you see the new M-G-M film (their first together), “Men in White.” In the words of @ recent news dispatch from their director, Richard Boleslavsky: They're Perfectly Matched “They are the complement of one another. Each brings out the latent appeal of the other.” Gable’s ex- treme masculinity and the distinct femininity of Myrna Loy, amount- ing almost to a feline quality at times, bring to the screen one of the most romantic and dramatic film teams of the season. But romantic appeal js not the only aspect of “Men in White.” It is in itself a gripping story, stark in its unveiled realism—a story of life in a great modern hospital. From the outstanding stage play of the season of the same name, “Men in White” is a beautifully told and en- acted tale of the struggle of a young Physician over circumstances that plunge him into love with an heiress and into a liaison with a nurse, Bar- bara. ‘The tragic role of Barbara, played by lovely Elizabeth Allan, is poig- nant and charged with pathos. In a ringing performance she plays it to the hilt. Perhaps the chief charm of “Men in White” is its all-around cast, which includes such “names” as Jean Hersholt, Otto Kruger, C. Henry Gordon, Russell Hardie, Wallace Ford romance but the life of her oad | and Henry B. Walthall. “Yes, Pal, our team got licked 20 to nothin’, I'd bid - goodbye to this cruel world if tonight wasn’t the night Pop always brings LOWERDAL home a quart of E ICE CREAM MERY 2 Lo] SHE HAD WHEN SHE PASSEO AR BuT THOSE Seekers, WHEN WE WIN THIS CASE AND GET THAT | 1 GUESS OLD GIVEN ME THE ‘Sul 1 HAVEN'T ANY IDEA WHERE TO LOOK FoR him!
