Christianson was elect- ed president of the Fortnightly club at a meeting Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. C, L. Young, 220 Avenue B West. She succeeds Miss Anna D. Burr. Named to serve with Mrs, Chris- tianson during the coming club year were Mrs. F. L. Conklin, vice presi- dent; Mrs. W. L. Nuessle, recording secretary; Mrs. F. R. Smyth, corre- sponding secretary; and Mrs C, F. Mudgett, treasurer. Miss Burr and Mrs. Nuessle were elected to represent the club at the convention of the eighth district clubs at Garrison next week. Mrs. George Bird and Mrs. Worth Lumry were named as alternates. A report of the high school essay contest on “Law Enforcement,” con- ducted recently by the club, was pre- sented during the afternoon. Miss Ione Noggle was the winner, receiv- ing a prize of $10. The judges, C. L. ‘Young and Nelson Sauvain. found dif- ficulty in making their decision be- cause of the splendid essays offered by the students, the report showed. Mary Cowan, Girl Scout, appeared at the meeting to request the cooper- ation of the members in making the concert of the Madrigal club of the University of North Dakota success- ful. The concert is to be given here Friday evening and proceeds will be divided equally between the Boy and Girl Scout troops. A paper on “Textiles,” given by Mrs. P. J. Meyer, was of particular inter- est because of its practical informa- tion in regard to various kinds of cloth, combinations of materials and weaving processes. Materials and processes used in manufacturing dif- ferent types of cloth were described and samples of each kind were dis- played. * *# % Mrs. J. H.
