Paul Cook, Bismarck, who set the pace in the qualifying round with a 69, two under par, disposed of Herb Anderson, Detroit Lakes, 2 up, to gain the quarter finals. Edgar Bolstad, Minneapolis, made a gallant comeback after being 1 down at the turn to Fritz Carman, Detroit Lakes, and won, 3 and 2. Another public links player from the Twin Cities, Al Priebe, St. Paul, scored a decisive 4 and 3 victory over L. C. Sorlein, Fargo. Pat Sawyer, Minneapolis. Tallman, Will- mar, trans-Mississippi senior title- holder, failed to qualify for play in the championship division. The intense heat in which the contestants played caused one entrant Bruce Zimmerman, Valley City, be overcome on the 14th tee. Later in the day he recovered with no effects.
