It will be an expression by the state of North Dakota, speaking through its general assembly, felicitating the Boy Scouts of America on the 21st to be signed by them, by th> gover- nor and by the secretary of state, and to which the great seal of the state is to be affixed. Members of local scout organiza- tions presented Scout ardbooxs to Governor George F. Shafer. Lieuten- ant Governor John W. Carr and Speaker C. V. Freeman as a part of the ceremony. In presenting the bocks, Duncan Wallace, an Eagle scout, said: “Mr. President, we are grateful for the kindness shown to the Boy Scouts in permitting us to join with the members of this legislative as- sembly in paying tribute to the mem- ory of Abraham Lincvin. On this, his natal day, the Boy Scouts of America pledge their undivided loy- alty to che government which he pre- served; and hereby pledge to this birthday anniversary of that organ- | = ization. Action was taken Thursday at the joint meeting of the house and sen- ate to honor the memory of Abraham Lincoln and members of the house and senate who have dicd during the last two years. On motion of Senator Frank Hy- land, Devils Lake, the assembly vote unanimously ‘to “extend to the Bo; Scouts of America its hearty con- gratulations ‘upon having arrived at the age of majority; that North Da- kota welcomes among its citizens of tomorrow those who now aie mem- bers of the various scout troops throughout this: commonwealth.” The resolution charged the presid- ing officers of the house and senate with the duty of conveying thes2 sen- timents to the proper officers of the Boy Scouts of America in a document ‘state our loyalty and support in any cause that may make for a better North Dakota. Your excellency, Governor Shafer, Mr. President and Mr. Speaker, accep: these tokens of our pledge as an evidence of the sin- cerity .f our intentions.
