_THE BISMARCK TRIBU E. FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 1930 A.C. SPENT ONLY $146 ONPOULTRY VENTURE Association Likely to Repeat| Project Among 4-H Ciubs; Take Up Road Matters Although it incurred a deficit of $146.05 cents on the venture last sum- mer, the Association of Commerce agricultural comtnittee and the board of directors are inclined to distribute baby chicks again next spring among the boys and girls of the Burleigh county 4-H clubs, for raising on the same basis as this season. The matter came up at the direc- tors meeting Thursday afternoon, at which the board appointed the elec- tion committee, which is to conduct the primary for slating of director candidates, November 11, and the sub- sequent final election November 21. S. A. Floren is chairman and the other members are Harvey Niles and W. G. Renden. { The agricultural committee made a | preliminary report on the year’s poul- try venture among the 4-H boys and girls of the county. The plan was the distribution of 25 baby chicks ‘to a summer, the return consideration for the chicks being $1 at time of delivery and two mature fowl for delivery at the State Corn show. The association invested $594.63 in the project and received back $448.58 from the pre- liminary $1 and the sale of the| chickens shown at the corn show, the | investment thus showing a deficit of | $146.05 in its initial year. | Burleigh Poultry Improved | The board discussion brought out the opinion that the venture was 2 great success in spite of the deficit. It brought into the county a lot of purebred poultry and raised the standard here. Besides it interested a large number of boys and girls in the industry of poultry raising and indirectly it developed a similar in- terest among the parents. It was-reported that some of the boys and girls who entered the ven- ture lost all their birds, owing to cold wet weather ensufhg after delivery. Others lost a part of their brood. The board discussed the State Corn show, being enthusiastic over the in- crease of exhibits from 584 in 1929 to 983 this year. and the number of exhibiting counties from 20 last year to 31 this year. Will Join in Hills Trail Plan Fred Peterson brought up the mat- ter of a Black Hills-Lemmon-Bis- marck road meeting at Lemmon, 8S. D.. next Monday evening. Repre- sentatives from the Black Hills towns and others along the route to this city will be present at the meeting. About three representatives will go from here. A dinner will be served and the meet- ing will undertake to organize a Black Hills-Bismarck trail association to boost the improved highway south from near Flasher, which the State Highway association has promised promoters of this route. Indian Educational Officials Visit Here The Indian school received official visits this week from two membesr of the Indian bureau staff. Dr.J.C.Ryan, head-of the educational department at Washington, was one of the callers and Inspector Holst, also from Wash- ington, was another. The visitors looked the school over and then left for Standing Rock agency. Both are understood to have been impressed by the character of the school here. During the visit the school put on demonstrations in voice, piano and dancing by students who excel in these attainments. A domestic science dinner also was served. Dr. Ryan came to get first-hand information with which to meet the interrogations of the subcommittee of the appropriations committee of the house of representatives. Auditor B.
