D., Aug. 14—(AP)—Two of the men held in jail here, charged with the Gwinner bank robbery last week, were identified today as the pair who held up William Rubenstein, Minneapolis furrier, and robbed him ‘of about $7,000 worth of furs on May 14. Rubenstein and W. J. Meehan, captain of Minneapolis detectives, were in Fargo today to look the suspects over. Those identified are “Big Wally” Martin, Omaha, known here as John Grant, and Freddie Wells, known here as George Smith. There is no ques- tion in the mind of Captam Mcehan | that the two men held here are Wells and Martin, he said. Both are well known to Twin City officials. A telegram warning Cass county of- ficials to be on the lookout and take’ all precautions to avoid a possible jail delivery was received here today from Minneapolis. The message stated that the men had many friends in the underworld and it is possible that an attempt to “spring” them may be made. He is working 10 miles north of Underwood and can de reached by mail at that town. Aged Relative of Late Governor Sorlie Dies Ellendale, Minn., Aug. 14.—(P)—A. M. Lerberg, 70, pioneer merchant of Ellendale and a director of the Ellen- dale State bank, died here Tuesday. He was a brother-in-law of the late A. G. Sorlie, former governor of | North Dakota. Lerberg is survived by his widow and three children. Mr. Lerberg was well known in Bis- | marck, having visited here on a num- | R her of occasions during the Sorlic administration. Frank Anders Elected Legion of Valor Head; Fargo, N. D., Aug. 14.—()—Frank L. Anders, Fargo, has been named | president of the Legion of Valor, an organization composed of soldier he- roes who have been decorated by the United States government, according to information received here. Mem- bers of the orders are holders of the congressional medal of honor and of the distinguished service cross. An- ders joined in 1925 and was made historian. In 1928 he was made senior vice commander. Anders was awarded the medal of honor for “distinguished gallantry in action” on May 13, 1899. He and 11 other members of Young's scouts, a group of picked riflemen, attacked 800 Filipinos, forcing them to retreat and capturing the town of San Miguel, which they held until re- inforcements arrived. He is a member of the Fargo city commission, a captain in the officers’ reserve corps and an officer in the state national guard regiment. DIDN'T START YOUNG London.—Herbert Rollett, a Grims- by artist-grocer, didn't start painting until he was 30, and now, at 56, he has had pictures accepted by the Royal academy for six successive years. His first paintings were landscapes, made ‘at 5:30 in the morning. After he fin- ished his painting he returned to the store and took up his job behind the counter. LOST CHILD RESTORED A lost three-year-old boy was picked up at the post office, Tuesday afternoon, by the staff. He was turned over to the police, who found he was a son of L. V. Carley. He was returned to his parents. SHIELDS CHILD DIES HERE Lawrence Evans, three-year-old child of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Evans, ot Shields, died in the city, Tuesday afternoon. The body was being sent to Shields this afternoon, for services and interment there. OFFICER 10 HOLD ANNUAL CONVENTION Minot, N.
