Al Smith ag) was named for president, delegates for Minnescta and the Dakotas today resumed their fight for a farm re- lief plank “giving farmers equality with other industry.” J. F. Reed, president of the Min- nesota Farm Bureau federation, joined with Minnesota delegates be- fore the resolutions committee Wednesday in pleading for a farm relief plank which would give farm- ers equality with industry. The two outstanding proponents ‘who appeared before the committee from Minnesota with Mr. Reed were J. F. Lyon of Waseca, Demo- cratic candidate fo. congress from the first cistrict, and Charles C. H. Porter of Calvin seizing the state standard and falling in be- hind California and Pennsylvania, the two leaders. Not far back came South Dakota, ninth in line, with H. E. Hitchcock of Mitchell and two or three other delegates alternating with the state standard. Minnesota’s standard - 3 carried by John R. Foley of Wabasha, fif- teenth in line, while the Gopher state alternate standard was in the hands of Mrs. Ruth Haynes Carpen- ter of Minneapolis, one of the few yvomen in that role. Andrew Nelson of Duluth, Demo- cratic candidate, will second the nomination of Governor Smith in an address tonight. The invitation for a seconding os from Minnesota was made to ‘illiam J. Quinn of St. Paul, and he passed on the honor to Nelson.
