D., Aug. 20.—Funeral services will be held herd Saturday at Warren A. Simpson Methodist church for the Rey. J. Charles Cooke, who passed away at the home of his sister, Mrs. John Little, on Wednesday night, after a long illness from chronic stomach trouble. District Superintend- ent Charles E. Vermilya of Bismarck will assist the pastor, Rey. R. R. Hedtke, in conducting the rites, which will begin at 10 a. m., and it is antici- pated that ministers from all parts of the Slope will attend, Interment Will be ‘made at Gladstone, the boyhood home of the dead divine. The family later moved to Wisconsin and in 1883 came to North Dakota, settling near Gladstone, where Willlam’ J. Cooke became the first Methodist preacher between Bismarck and the Montana line. The deceasel received hig university training at Hamline, from which he graduated in 1899, and in 1904 he af- fillated with the North Dakota con- forence of the Methodist church, with which he served in a number of charges, his last being at Bowdon, He underwent an operation at tne James. town hospital June 17, and since July 11 he had.made his home with his sister here, Rey. Cooke was united in marriage at Gladstone in 1908 with Miss Nellie Lawhead, who survives him, together with two sisters and four brothers, as follows: Henry W. Cooke, Dickinson; Rev. G. A. Cooke; Wilmington, Del.; Mrs. John Little,” Dickinson; Mrs, Candee, Gladstone; Dr. T. F. Cooke, Burlington, Ia., and Rey. E. A, Cooke, Frainerd, Minn.
