WHY WOMEN WEAR HIGH HEELS BY BEATRICE YOUNG. N. E. A. Washington Bureau. 1128-1134 Munsey Bldg. WASHINGTON D. C. My Belgian godson, Veteran of the trenches since 1914, spends part of his leisure wondering about’ women’s clothes.. What he really can NOT comprehend, what remains a mystery in spite of his ponderings, is why women. wear big hats and high heels. He wrote me, to ask my opinion. He told me that before doing so, he ‘had heard the matter discussed, but jhis curiosity was unsatisfied. Of course, I wanted to .know who ————————————— ————— as Acid-Stomach Makes Bad Blood, Headaches and Nervousness War Bonnets Retre ati in Disorder! Many times you have seen an awfully: bad, oozy - looking face that makes you think—“It’s, bl poison.” You are wrong, for about nine <imes out of ten it is caused by an acid-stomach, which interferes with the natural digestion of the food in the entire digestive tract. Of course, this makes the blood impure and it always shows up in’the face, with a red nose and pimply, blotchy muddy, bad looking complexion.. Get rid of the excess acid, keep your blood pure, and see how quickly the face will show it with good looks. Remember, too, that when you eat—no matter how good the food, if the digestion is faulty, you cannot escape the penalty in the loss of power, mental and physical. All this is the result of su- per-acidity, a sthe doctors call it. Then again if you eat more food than the body requires, it is converted into gas by fermentation, or what is called sour stomach. This shows that even good ood, taken in excess, can at once become a poison and a hindrance to good health. Excess acid also causes irritation in the stom- ach, intestines and the nerve fibres, which, by the million, run from the stomach and the intestines all over the body and directly to the brain. This is frequently the cause of those awful headaches that so many people are afflicted with. In time y it ‘wil develop into hyper-chloridia; it is the prime cause of sleeplessness, then nervous indigestion, menancholia, and frequently, insantity. Nervousness is caused by sour stomach, because this -acid~ fermentation causes decomposition, makes carbon dioxide and other toxics, which, taken into the blood, irritate the nerves and affect the entire nervous system. In this manner it cre- ates nervousness and you often hear people say, “J am so nervous that I just think I will fly to pieces,” and little do they attribute the cause to an_acid condition of the stomach. ‘A: new method of removing this excess acid has been found. Read what-a learned Michigan phy- sician writes of his success with it. “I have had such wonderful success with a new method called EATONIC that I want everyone to know how quickly it will neutralize the acidity and the sto- mach will soon be sweet and normal again, and the sick man well and_happy once more.” This truly wonderful modern remedy, EATONIC, literally wipes out the excess acid.
